Just from experience I'd urge caution at jumping to conclusions.

Does anyone know the history of Ranavirus in Ireland?

The symptoms were unmistakable. They were considerably worse than the red lesions in this picture, which is taken from

One entire leg was a raw red lesion. And the other was partially red. It was so red that at first I thought that the frog was bleeding. But I got a really good look at him because he was on the driveway, and not obscured by any foliage.

The following scholarly paper makes clear that there was no Ranavirus in Ireland in 2007. It seems to have hit britain hard in 2010

    Please see attached.

On national newt survey training earlier this year suspected ranavirus symptoms were observed in newts in a location in north Kildare. The Newt survey coordinator suspected it was the first sighting of ranavirus in the wild in Ireland. Alas no samples were captured for analysis.

NPWS need to be informed at the very least. IWT newt survey coordinator would also appreciate an update. I will PM you some details.

If you see it again please try photo it and pass the evidence onto NPWS/IWT. NPWS may request that you try to capture it for confirmation.
