Sail & Rail - buying a single from London without a UK delivery address

Apologies for starting a new thread, but the title of the old one wasn't entirely accurate.

I'm trying to do something very simple in theory, but it seems to be complicated in practice. All I want to do is book a journey back from London to Dublin on a specific train and either pick up the ticket at a station when I get to London (by plane a few days earlier), get it posted to me in Ireland, or buy it from a train station/ferry terminal in Ireland.

I'm torn between Stena & Irish Ferries but ultimately it doesn't matter unduly. Irish Ferries gets me an extra 20 minutes 'sleep' by arriving later. Stena gets me to Westmoreland Street in the fare. Much of a muchness.

I tried ringing Stena this morning and the person on the end of the line could tell me all about it, but couldn't actually book it. She had to talk to the lady who does the booking apparently. It then turned out that they can only post out tickets to a UK address if you reserve for a specific train so that would only work if I got them sent to my hotel. Since I haven't booked my hotel yet that wasn't going to work.

I checked the IE site and they want you to email in or go to a train station. This is a possibility, but not one I can do in the next few days.

[edit]I remembered that someone had referenced booking their Sail & Rail ticket via the Arriva Trains Wales website, so I gave that a go. Worked like a charm. Booked the train I wanted, got the seat reservation I wanted, and I can pick the ticket up at Euston when I want. No booking charge, nothing. Simples. The only thing I couldn't do was book a cabin/club class on the boat, but I can live with that. I'll just work out on the night whether it's worth it or whether I am likely to be able to bunk down around the ship.

So, in summary . . . it seems that the Arriva Trains Wales website is the optimal way to book a UK-Ireland leg like this from Ireland unless I'm missing something.

Book with Arriva Trains Wales, Rail Sail does not on Irish crossings have any provision for cabins, that for you to sort out with guest services after you board.

    Booking is now mandatory
