New TV no signal...

    Folks

Bought a new TV for the kitchen- a Samsung LED- says on the box Saorview compatible
Have it on the wall but it doesn't receive any channels:
We have no aerial.... (which reading the stickies seems to likely to be our issue)... In the sitting room we have UPC digital

What should/could I do to get either Saorview or UPC- multi room viewing would probably sort this out for us.

If I buy an aerial would I likely get any saorview coverage ( we had an old TV in the kitchen a few years ago with a coat hanger providing aerial services :o, it had poor picture quality but received all terrestrial channels). What type of aerial would I need to buy?
Is the simplest option to get multiroom viewing for UPC?

Hope these questions haven't been asked a hundred times before....

Yes, an aerial is required for saorview

what type or where it will need to be placed depends on how strong the signal is

In Dublin you probably do not need anything too complex

    Thanks for that-
I'm in South Dublin so should be able to get something via 3 rock transmitter- in order to tide me over really quickly could I get a very simple aerial that I wouldn't have to mount on the exterior of the house? If so do the likes of Powercity/DID stock?

It might be worth getting an internal antennas from Argos. If it doesn't work, you can use the 10-day return policy.

External aerial pointed at 3 Rock or Kippure should get you sorted.

Where are you? Take a look at the Saorview coverage map.

This question has been asked so many timees it is getting tedious. You spend loads on a nice telly and peanuts on a signal feed and wonder why it does not work. Take that indoor aerial back and get a proper outdoor aerial installed as the broadcasters intended.

Signal may not be good enough for an indoor aerial, RTÉNL estimate 50% of the population may be able to receive Saorview with an indoor aerial the rest will require an outdoor one.

    From the Saorview FAQ
Can I Use An Indoor Portable Aerial, Rabbits Ears?

RTÉNL does not recommend the use of indoor portable aerials. They are too susceptible to localised physical and electrical interference. Terrestrial transmission of television, analogue and digital, is designed and built around rooftop reception.

It will be possible for over 50% of the population to receive SAORVIEW with an indoor portable aerial. However on a house to house basis there are many factors than impact on the effectiveness of a portable aerial. For example the orientation of your house, the location of the television in the house, the construction materials, the insulation materials, the proximity to neighbouring houses, walls and obstructions will all impact reception.

An outdoor aerial, positioned as high as possible, pointing towards the appropriate transmission site, with no local obstructions is recommended and will give the best results.

Yes I read your post but have you tried it with the TV? As I posted above the Saorview signal may not be good enough inside your house for the indoor aerial to be of any use.

If you can't get Saorview with the outdoor aerial it could be that it's pointing at a transmitter not carrying Saorview in which case it may have to be realigned with a different transmitter and/or the aerial may have to be upgraded.

Where are you located and what analogue terrestrial channels can you receive?

So why don't you use the outdoor aeriel instead of this indoor one which I assumed cost peanuts?
