Sending Copies of original photos

    Hi,

I recently took some photos of a group for their web site. I tidied them up and sent on the best ones. I got a great reply back from the person I've been dealing with saying they were very pleased but could they have all of the photos that were taken, even if they weren't any good?

I'm not sure I'd like to send on photos that don't represent my best work. I've a feeling their web designer has asked for all of the photos so they can work on them but the web site seems quite basic in terms of graphic design and so I don't know what the designer will do to the photos which my name will be associated with.

Am I wrong to ask why they want all of the photos including bad ones?

Tell them there are no more.

They know I took quite a few shots of each pose as they were asking why I took so many. Out of five or so shots that I took for each pose, I sent on the best one, they know there are more. I don't want to offend anyone but at the end of the day the designers name won't be going on the photos.

It's up to you to maintain a standard that you are happy with, and they shouldn't really ask you for your rejected photos IMHO.

    Tell them they were recycled.

I would only send those you're happy with.

If they want more, just explain that your quality process selected those images, and that you generally don't keep images you are not happy with. Explain that some are not correctly in focus, eyes blinking, etc, and that you have already sent them the selected images.

I asked my wedding photographer - a boards user, as it happens - for all of my photos and he provided them; they were my photos after all. Just explain to the person that you take that many photos to make sure they get the best, and that obviously some of the remainder won't be of the same quality. Then give your customer what they asked for.

    You're very lucky so.

Either the photographer trusts you very much, or else they have poor quality control.

Very very few photographers would hand over all images taken.

The client should always trust the photographer's judgement, and the photographer should give the client quality images.

As long as the photographer provides what was agreed (I assume it was simply group shots), in that case the job is ended.

Thanks for all replies and suggestions, much appreciated.

Put it this way, the website has a badly photo shopped photo of the group in a landscape scene and I don't want that to be represented as my work. A wedding album may only be seen by a few people but a website can be accessed by many.

tell them you deleted all sub-par photos.

In fairness they can't realistically expect you to stand over photos that don't meet your own quality criteria.

If they use a bad quality photo, and it's associated with your name, people will think you are a bad photographer that doesn't deliver quality photography, when this is not the case.

As was said already, tell them you deleted the sub-par shots of each pose. RAW files are big and take up a lot of room on the comp.

Tell them you have deleted the bad ones and that you have already killed
    everyone that saw them.
