This is weird problem. When I move the curser the whole window moves.

This means that the page I am working on moves not just the curser.

I've forgotten how to rebuild the desktop. Would that help? What is the key combination to do this.

I didn't explain that very well. The entire background screen rolls as I move the curser.

This means that the deck and toolbar move as well, disappearing to the top and side. This makes it difficult to edit and control what I am doing.

could you show a screen shot of it happening? just press CMD + Shift + 3. It saves the screenshot to the desktop, then host the picture on an image hosting site.

Sounds like you have your Accesability options turned on.

Try this - press cmd alt and minus repeatedly until your view zooms out.

Then if you go into system preferences -> Universal Access and turn off zoom this shoudln't happen again

    FYI when zoom is on
    cmd alt + zooms in
    cmd alt - zooms out

Yes. That was the problem right enough. All because my 12 month old grandson pressed a few keys. I ended up disabling zoom in the finder preferences.

    Thank you.

    Welcome:D

On the plus side - it can be useful to know the zoom function is there!

you can also hold control + scroll in/out. That's a handy way to do that also.
