UPC dropping some recordings

Over the past few weeks some of my UPC planned recordings have not recorded. Weirdly, programmes directly before them on the same channels have recorderd fine (as planned). I'm losing episodes of series where only some record, that kind of thing. Seems to happen mostly when the TV is off. Would be more understandable if nothing recorded when it was off (as in there'd be a definite problem with a connection or something) but some do, some don't.
Anyone else have this problem? Any explanations?

Same happened tonight to me.The red recording arrow was showing on screen but noticed the red light was not on the box. Sure enough the show didn't record.Anyone else get this.

Yeah, me too. For some reason, it has decided to randomly record a repeat (if there is one) later in the week. For instance, I've been recording Borgen on BBC 4. Tonight, the last two episodes were broadcast. I just sat down to watch the recordings and it only recorded one of them, with the second scheduled for Thursday at 01:15, according to the TV Planner. I could swear they were both scheduled for this evening. It did the same thing with Mad Dogs on Sky 1 last week. It should've recorded the second episode but it didn't and, even though it said it would, it then didn't record the repeat on Wednesday night.

It did the same thing with consecutive recordings on RTE 2 - dumped Damages and did Homeland. It only seems to happen if something is scheduled for consecutive recordings and it makes no difference if the TV or box is on or off. I was watching Damages and only noticed about half way through that it wasn't recording. Nobody was home when Borgen was on and same for Mad Dogs. Am v annoyed over Borgen - the others, not so much. If it drops the very last episode of Borgen then you may see the first UPC HD box in orbit. Stupid yoke.

ETA: Found another thread discussing the same problem here.

They are coming out again on Thursday.

Just had this problem at weekend with last two episodes of The Bridge on BBCHD. Very annoying.

As far as I can tell, the software in the box tries to avoid recording overlaps where possible. So in the case of The Bridge, if there was an overlap with something else on Saturday, it would record the repeat on Wednesday. A couple of times it recorded the first of the two weekly episodes on Saturday and the second on Wednesday, which I didn't actually mind at all.

I have the box set to record 5 minutes before and after the set times, and sometimes that alone causes an overlap. e.g. if one show ends at 22:00 and another starts at 22:00, the extra minutes trigger an overlap. Even on the same channel, which is odd, since I would have thought the programming would be smart enough to avoid that. The behaviour is inconsistent: most times the guide says "overlap, will not be recorded", but it is recorded because the box is capable of recording two channels at once. (This is on my non-HD box, the Thomson 62UPC01.) But occasionally it doesn't record the show, and it's usually something shown only once at 3am.
