Fail one, fail all?

I can't find information about this anywhere! It's probably obvious though.

So Im doing 6 modules and I fail one module, does that mean I've failed the year?

Are the grades for all 6 weighted to give one mark?

If I do well in 5/6 but fail 1/6 will I pass?

    Hope this makes sense!
    TIA.

I'm pretty sure its a case of them getting an average of your marks. If your average is above the pass rate then you pass, despite the fact that you may have failed one of the modules. Some courses only allow compensation for failed modules up to a certain amount of credits. I know in Science, we can compensate but only up to ten credits and where the fail is not below 35%.

Whats compensation? I really don't have a clue sorry!

No problem. AFAIK its where you compensate for a failed paper by means of your average being above the fail rate.

All info should be in your course handbook. What course are you doing?

The answer to the OP's question is very course-specific. Practice varies widely throughout College. The answer should be found in either (a) the College Calendar (accessible on the College website), or (b) the course handbook.

Very much depends on your course and the module itself. For example, in languages, you can't fail any of the written language papers or the oral, but literature isn't as important. So failing 1 module might be ok, but there could be certain modules that you have to pass. Check your handbook!
