Anti-war person dating a weapons manufacturer...

I have always wondered about whether a person who is genuinely anti-war and a socialist could non-hypocritically date a programmer or an engineer working on a weapons system for the American or British army? And what about dating an actual marine or soldier fighting in Iraq or Afghanistan?

This post could go anywhere but I thought it might get more interesting replies from people interested in American politics.

My own opinion is that while two people can hold opposing political views comfortably in a relationship (in fact sometimes this is to be preferred) when it comes to let's say having your meals paid for by a person making money for a company which profits from war, then that person cannot go on protests against such companies or complain without being a slight hypocrite.

    What do people think?

I have a cousin who has actually done some programming for one of the Miltary's (unspecified/classified) missile defense systems. Assuming this was the PATRIOT Missile Defense System, whats the moral hangup there? Or for the Captain that flies air patrol on the western seaboard? Or to reach this logical conclusion not everyone stationed in the Middle East is a war monger - very few in fact - but I'll let them speak for themselves.

I think your view is a little unrefined, to say that military personnel can't have personal misgivings about how war is conducted. Military pay does not equate to blood money. How two people deal with oppossing political views in a relatiopnship is another matter entirely, and up to them.

A lot of people today are confusing being 'anti-war' with being 'anti-the current wars n Iraq and Afghanistan'. Many of the latter are self-described as the former, but there is no moral hypocrysy involved.

I think it's gotten something to do with the sexual turn on the person gets from sleeping with someone who is involved in the taking of life.
    o........ k.
