Inferior labial frenulum damaged or severed?

    Hi there

I got attacked on Saturday night in Tenerife. Was punched in the jaw, some kicks to the head and body.

Then one of them opened my mouth and cut between the lower lip and teeth. The next morning when I woke up my lower teeth look like they were behind the upper. I first thought it was due to the punch in the jaw.

However, when I got back home last night from Tenerife. I noticed that there was a cut in my lower gums and it looked like that the interior labial is cut.

Ok my question. What would be better for me to do, call to a dentist, a doctor or hospital?

I'm based in Limerick city. So who would be the best for me to visit for this type of injury?

    Thanks

    Ray

sorry to hear about the assault, sounds horrific.

If your mouth was cut by a blade I would go to your GP first and ask for a general check up, tetanus shots etc and explain clearly what happened.

After that go to your own dentist and maybe you would need some stitches where you were cut, there could also be some tooth damage by the sound of things so your dentist can advise you if you need any treatment.

I dont know Limerick so cant give any recommendations who to see but someone may send a PM or ask your family
    Take care

Are you absolutely sure someone cut it like you described? it would be difficult to do even if you sat still and let him do it. Perhaps you are looking at the cut and are assuming he used a blade? (not accusing you of misstating facts, just trying to clarify)

I wouldn't be surprised if your jaw was broken and the gum torn from a punch or kick. It would be good to see a doctor but essential you see a dentist ASAP. Time is of the essence in case teeth have to be repositioned.

Apart from that how was the rest of your holiday in Tenerife?:D

Well it was 6:30 in the morning or so, and was well drunk with all the pints and whiskeys drank throughout the day since match time.

I just had a look in the mirror and I could see that the lefthand canal is cut while the right hand side one is still there.

I was held down by two guys while the third fellow put some form of blade or snipes into my mouth.

There is not so much pain from the punch and kicks but I'll still ask the dentist to check my chin and jaws.

Have appointment with the dentist tomorrow so will hear what she says.

The rest of the week was good. Was in the north of the island in Puerta de la Cruz for a soil science conference. Two of us then decided to go to Playa De Las Americas for the last night before we left. Crazy place.

sounds like those guys were specialists! A cut is better than a tear and if you are seeing someone tomorrow you should be fine.

can't imagine why they would want to do that though. maybe it's their idea of branding.

glad to hear it didn't ruin your holiday ??

I went to the dentist yesterday. Told her the story. She checked my chin, jaw, the teeth and the cut I received.

She said it is probably that the inferior labial frenulum was not cut but gum very close to it.

She said that it was most likely that the punch on my chin lifted the jaw from the socket(s) below the ears. This caused my chin to collape and that it looks more serious in the first couple of days. The chin and mouth area should be back to normal within a week

I'm on antibiotic for five days, and a revisit next Wednesday.

Hey, sorry to hear what happened to you, hope you make a full recovery and those guys get caught & punished for what they did to you.
