    Hi,

Been job hunting the past 6-7months and have finally gotten an offer.Yay!
In my search as time passed I was throwing the net wider and wider.

The role I have been offered is about half my last salary (€50k to £23k), requires my to relocate to the U.K. and is in an area that I didnt work before. I feel like I undersold myself somewhat going for the role.

I am now trying to decide the best option for me. I think this job would add another string to my bow, keep me busy but am wondering if in a years time I will have moved away from where I want to go.

Is it best to settle on this job and a new experience or hold out indefinitely??
I'd appreciate peoples thoughts on this.

    Thanks:)

    Hi Op

I can understand your dilmena, I think being unemployed can drive you so mad that you'll go for anything. Will it have a huge impact on your personal life if you move? That is the first issue. Has there been anything advertised in the area that you are experienced in? Have you had any interviews and have you exhausted all options here in Ireland for your field? If you think things could pick up pretty soon then I would sit tight but I should also add, will you actually enjoy the work you've been offered? I think everyone is taking wage deductions so I'd let that one lie but consider all the above and see what answer comes for you.

    Thanks miec,
Have been thinking about it awhile now reckon I 'm going to accept.
I have had a few interviews here but nothing for awhile now so plan to accept, see how it goes and keep an eye on the recruitment pages here.

Looking forward to the challenges. :)

You need to consider both the cost of living and quality of life in the area you're moving to, you can't just compare salaries like that. Many things in the UK are cheaper so you may well find your quality of life in the UK on £23k is better than being on €50k in Ireland.

If you find you like the role/area you can always get another job there.

go for it, if you have a job you will get a job, the experience will stand to you, often people have worked abroad will be considered in preference to irish people for jobs that WILL come on stream later

    best of luck

First of all, congratulations on getting the job.

I'd probably take the job and give it a good go, especially as nothing seems to happening for you here.
