Aggressive blackbird

There was a male blackbird in my garden today that was far more aggressive than blackbirds usually are. He spent most of today racing from one side of the garden to the other to charge at other ground feeding birds. He also kept flying up onto the hanging feeders to chase starlings away even though he has no interest in feeding up there.

With all of that he didn't seem to spend a whole lot of time actually eating. I also saw him standing on one leg, somebody commented on this forum before that this may be to stop heat loss?

The only change I made to the food today was putting out some dried mealworms that I had soaked in water. Blackbird seemed very keen to "guard" the mealworms so perhaps that had something to do with it.

Perfectly normal behaviour for a Male Blackbird in these severe weather conditions when food is scarce. He will eat what he wants and spend the rest of the dsay trying to guard the food from other birds, so he will have something to eat tomorrow.
