Claiming back tax

Sorry if this has been posted before but need to ask a question.

I don't know anything about claiming tax back or how it works. Is it possible to claim tax back over the past few years that I have worked? I am currenlty working full time for the past 13months, before that the longest lasting job was 10months or so, I remember my employer from my previous job giving me a letter saying I could claim some tax back but it wouldn't be that much but I didn't get round to doing it.

So is it possible that I can claim back any tax at all?

Also another quick question, I was out of work for about 5days because of an injury, I had already used up my paid sick days earlier on in the year due to another injury. I handed in my sick notes from the doctor to my employer and noticed a massive chunk out of my pay this month. Do I just go into the social welfare office with my sick notes and something could possibly be done?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

    Cheers,
    Tom
