Just back from a j1 in Boston and honestly I cannot say enough about the city, I absolutely loved it there. Its really easy to get around, got a job fairly handy and also a great apartment in a very central location. Met loads of great people, and the women!!!:D What can I say, they love the accent!;) Spent a week in NY and really hated it, far too big, and also spent a few days in Cape Cod (Hyannis) and hated that, for the opposite reason! I was glad to get back to Boston, which is only what I can describe as the Galway of The US... I would definitely go back.

Yeah Boston is a cool city. If you like there you should check out San Diego or Austin, Texas at some stage. I prefer them more than Boston.

Hey, I'm looking into getting a J1 visa at the moment, could you tell me about your experience with obtaining 1 any would you recomment any compeny in particular. Also is it possible to just get one through the embassy or do you have to go through the likes of USIT, I hate the idea of paying them for somethingI could easily do myself.

Yeah Boston was my first encounter with the states and I had a summer there a few years back. Changed my life and I went back but to a different city and had an even better time. Now I'm going back again to try somewhere different and I intend to live over there in the next 2 years. Its important to switch it up a bit and try new cities and places when visiting America coz it has just got so much going on and everywhere is different. Would definitely agree that there is something sort of magical about Boston though as it is so small compared to other cities. Could never support another baseball team after living in Boston.

I got my visa through USIT.The visa itself was free last year, (this year as well I think). Basically, you pay USIT, or SAYIT or whoever, and they book your flights and embassy interview date (if you need one). I think you can book an embassy date by yourself, just give them a call and see what the story is.
If i was to go on the J1 again though, I would definately book the flights etc myself and not bother going through one of the companies, which are all pretty much the same from talking to other J1ers...hope this helps!

Hey guys, just a quick question to those of you who have been to boston, how did you find jobs? Were they easy to get or a bit more scarce...obviously its a bit of a change now with the way the economy is and stuff..
