Reality TV Forum - Merits?

I wanted to bounce the idea of a Reality TV forum off the regulars to this forum. Is there merit in creating one (or repurposing the Big Brother forum)? I think there is, for the following reasons:

    1. The Big Brother forum is dormant for 8 months of the year.

    2. The recent Apprentice and Dragons Den threads have proven that people love discussing these shows as they air.

    3. The Reality TV Haters will be happier that the Television forum is kept pure. :)

    4. As these shows air, everything about the show is kept within a single thread, which can run to pages and pages of confusing conversation as multiple topics are discussed simultaneously (there are positive and negative aspects to this).

    5. There are other reality shows running at the moment which I know people are watching - Survivor, Celebrity Apprentice, Celeb Bainisteoir, Dragons Den, the new UK Apprentice etc.

If you're interested in an RTV forum, vote in the poll (and maybe give me a +1 on this thread to show your support).

If you think its a crap idea, then tell me too.... I'm just trying to open new avenues of discussion here.

    - Dave.

No - All reality TV discussion should be kept in the main TV forum.

    Excellent idea!

For some reason, I thought we had a 'Reality TV' forum but must have been just thinking of the 'Big Brother' forum.

Should definitely be put in place!

    Support ++

This is why it gets my support! :)

Probably best to repurpose the Big Brother forum into one for all reality shows IMO.

It would get my support if only because (as above) i cant stand Reality tv, and wouldnt mind having those threads all in one place that i could avoid.

Personally, I dislike dilution. Having broader input makes discussion more interesting. Reality TV is a fixture of the schedules like any other. For those reasons, I say no.

    I politely disagree. :)

At time of writing, there is one reality thread on Page 1 of the TV forum (the Apprentice UK thread). Moving that from the main Television forum is not going to dilute the forum. 12 hours from now, that thread will be a jumbled mess of comments regarding the first episode. If The Apprentice thread was moved to a Reality TV forum, it would allow people to stretch the discussion beyond the limitations of a single thread.

i voted yes - im not big into reality tv i tried watching some but i just dont find it interesting - although i did laugh a couple of times during last comic standing.

for the people like like reality tv they have it all in once place like the scifi forum before sg and bsg ect got their own forums

for people that dont like it will divirt the threads away from the tv forum

    everyone wins

Rename Big Brother Reality TV and put them all in there.

I think going by Genre is better then going by individual TV show, in particular with Big Brother which has diluted the discussion completely.

Well, I'm not exactly for individual TV show forums either, though some have merited their existence. But more forums is what boards is all about.

You do realize we would then have to actually do something with our lives to get the feeling of superiority

Corrected that for you. Personally hate the way that most radio shows do an "emperor's new clothes" on it, pretending that it's the best thing ever.

The reason I voted yes. Wouldn't call it "Reality TV", though, since its contrived and extreme.

Not interested in it, but that's why it's a good idea! :D

It's obviously a niche market, and while there's part of me saying that the people who say "get this crap off TV" should have an input into a wider discussion (e.g. what happens when some new series starts ? do some of us have to go into a new forum to say "not another one!") I'd nearly prefer if I could just ignore it (even though that involves switching off the radio as it's even infiltrated the "news" and futilely trying to remove E4 from my Sky EPG.

Another vote for it so as I won't have to see reality TV threads in here again!

I think that this would be a good idea for both the fans of reality TV and those who are not fans.

For the fans - to be able to see what new reality shows are on, like once one comes on stream, there is usually someone who will post about it and sometimes you only find out half way through the series.

For the non-fans - the TV forum won't be clogged up with threads on Dragons den, Apprentice etc for each week and are always on the first page.
