Grant payments stopping before my academic year is out?!

I am currently doing a Diploma HE in Nursing in England. I am getting a grant from Ireland. As it it, the "maintenance" grant doesn't even cover my rent. It works out roughly £75 a week. My rent is £89. My parents are paying my rent, but this isn't my issue.
My course is pretty full on. I get 6 weeks annual leave - 2 x Christmas, 1 x Easter, 3 x Summer. I'm in Uni until 31st August, when I then get my summer holidays.
I had to phone my grant authority to find out about my next payment. I then asked what will happen after the next payment because I'm in Uni until August etc and was told I won't be getting any payments after May!
I find it very hard to believe that's fair. She said that because in Ireland the academic year is until May, they won't payout after that!
I can't afford this, and my parents can't afford to pay rent and give me living money. (only one parent working.)
A job isn't possible, I am either in Uni 9-5/6 Mon-Fri using weekends to do course work, or I'm on placement in hospital(either early starts, late finishes, every second weekend, some nights)
I'm just freaking out about what will happen, and wondering what I can do... Has anyone had a similar problem? Or can this be appealed or some such?
    Thanks for reading!

Sorry to hear about your plight,
i'd say try for any student hardship funds available from your course. You won't get anything else of the Irish grant system.

I know it's no comfort but if the Irish academic year was longer they'd prob just get the same amount of money and divide it over a greater number of months.
