Cooney and Nocher are Beijing bound

"Swimmers Aisling Cooney and Melanie Nocher have been selected to represent Ireland at the Olympic games in Beijing despite neither managing to reach the required qualifying standard.

The OCI asked Swim Ireland to nominate a number of swimmers who were close to the A standard and who would be in contention to swim at the London 2012 games."

Seems like a sensible move by the IOC. I wonder if they will extend such a gesture to the AAI.

If they did, who should they select? Carey, Campbell, Chamney??

Carey and then the winner of the 800 at the Nationals which is looking likely to be Chamney unless Kildare McCarthy won the Nationals in 1.46 something.

It seems only right that you should select a your athlete who has met the B standard . Long term planning for 2012 is a must.

If your not going to do this why even have a B standard?
