    how do folks?
at the minute i'm getting bored looking at the skirting and door frames in a couple of the rooms in my house. i've decided they'd look better painted, but the problem is those badboys are varnished. is it much of a job to paint over? does the varnish need to be completely removed? sanded down? stripped chemically? (without spending a fortune hiring someone etc.) whats the dealio kids?

They'll need sanding, I'm afraid. And priming too. A bit of a boring task, but worth it for a good-looking, robust finish.

You say that you're thinking of just doing a couple of rooms - it's worth considering that it might look a bit odd if the skirting and doors vary from room to room within your house. It's entirely down to you of course, but I reckon uniform trims throughout a house tend to look best.
