    Having a bit of troubling figuring these questions out, any help would be much appreciated.

    Q1: Radius of Earth: 6.4x10^6 - find linear speed of a small object at latitude 53° North

    Q2: body attached to fix point P, hanging vertical at A, moves to B (roughly horizontal to P). mass - .24Kg; radius - .8m; initial horiz. velocity - 5m/s

    When at B, calculate the velocity of the body.

    Q1

    R1 = (Cos53)(6.4e6) = 3.85e6

    2(pi)r = 24.20e6

    24.20e6 in 1 day: 24.20e6 / (24 x 60 x 60) = 280.1 m/s

    Q2

    KE_a = (0.5)(0.24)(5)^2 = 3J, PE_a = 0

    KE_b = (0.5)(0.24)(x)^2 = 0.12x^2, PE_b = (0.24)(9.81)(0.8) = 1.88J

    ... 3 = 1.88 + 0.12x^2
    ... x = 3.05 m/s
