You may qualify for some payment but it depends on a lot of things, how long are you working part-time? as you need to suffer a substanial loss of earning to qualify.Jobseekers Benefit/Allowance(dole) does not really go on how many hours a week you work. It depends on how many days a week you work i.e more then 3 days you wont be entitled to any money, 3 days or less you may be entitled to some payment it depends on whether you quailfy for Benefit or Allownace. Just enquire at you local office is the quickest way.

Also depends on whether you intend sitting your summer exams.

Ok, in your position you may be entitled to some benefit.
you should take a look at the following document, in particular page 54, which documents "Part Time Work and S/W entitlements".
it is best explained on page 54/55 of the document

    In summary, it says that
"You may be entitled to work up to 3 days part time and seek Jobseekers allowance (don't think you would be entitled to Jobseekers Benefit, but its the same amount, just different circumstances!)

Working will reduce the amount of S/W you will get but not by the amount you have earned. Its quite a complicated calculated system, take a look at it in your own time.

Wouldn't his claim also be means tested if he's living at home as assuming he won't have made enough contributions if in college and only working part time ?

    You can

If you qualify for benefit you can get it during the summer months, as even tho you're registered as part of a full time course, you ARE available for and seeking work for the summer
