Exploding BBs

The big downfall with airsoft is there is no evidence that a bb was hit a player (unless it hits bare skin). Has no company tried to make BBs that leave a mark? I was thinking that if they where made out of a compressed powder that broke on contact and exploded leaving a powder mark over the target.

havent been hit by too many bb's have you...? :D

you know when you are hit 99.999% recurring...a lot of people who deny hits are because they dont understand the game...kinda pointless to deny a hit. you feel it or you hear it...again there is a .00001 chance of a mistake but i would only believe that from people on this board who are regulars...

nice idea on the powder but i am not sure i dont want plastic splinters zipping around into eyeballs. the bb wont pierce an eyeball or at least according the the medical journals....however plastic fragments..yeuck.

think theyve been tried, and in the process destroyed alot of peoples guns... people dont even entertain their idea now afaik, despite how possibly good they could be nowerdays
(thinkin of the 'thundercaps', I think they used to be called that used to be sold in the uk ~10 years ago. The minipaintballs where awful too iirc)

Mini (6mm) paintballs tend to prematurely split when still in the barrel, also the contain such a small amount of paint that they're pretty much ineffective

Having something in a platic shell shatter/explode is a very bad idea from a safty point of view.

well the issue isn't really if people have been hit, its whether they have taken the hits or not.Thats where the honour system comes in. This system and the technical aspects of the aegs and the variety of aegs encourages an esprit amongst airsofters.there seems to be alot more comradery in qairsoft in comparrison to other similar sports.....and when in doubt, if you think you've been hit, you probably have...take the hit, the next games just around the corner :D

There wouldn't need to be any shell involved. Press the powder down so it's fairly solid and possibly use some sort of reason on the outside to give it a smooth finish and added strength to get it out of the barrel in tacked. The biggest problem I see with it is getting it out of the barrel without breaking but still fragile enough to burst on impact.

I haven't had the honer of being hit all that many times but when I was at hrta there was a time when I thought I got hit but wasn't sure I felt something but it wasn't at all sore, I was so pumped with adrenaline I didn't feel much. I saw the bb coming at me and assumed I must have got hit.

Thing is that the high quality BB's are precision milled for the tolerances of the barrels. You couldnt garauntee the same precision or longevity with the pressed powder.

We might as well play paint ball then.

I still think there's a place for them. Even for target practice, leaving a red mark on a wall would be easier to spot than a hole in paper and it would look cool seeing them explode on contact. They'd also more than likely be more biodegradable than your standard bio BB.

Get some shoot'n'see targets that'll solve your targeting problem.

US army uses chalk bullets for training, it is possible but exspensive and painfull. A chalk or powder bullet compressed would weigh a lot.

True but the chalk "bullet" is fired using the same chemical charge as a real bullet, which would require a real gun, which would require a license and you wouldnt be able to skirmish with it.

Again ,the physics of a powder or chalk BB dont work out. We have enough trouble from the fact that a sphere isnt aerodynamically stable without the added problems of deformed/over weight/under weight/poor surface tension/short life span chalk.

Come to think of it, the hop unit would probably cause it to explode in the chamber.

Edit: Its a pity though because the chalk bullet thing looks like great fun.

What about the bb`s that make the bang on impact, has anyone used them

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,401 ✭✭✭Arcto

I spent an hour watching a show the other night about US training grounds. They use M16's fireing chalk bullets. Man that would feckn hurt. I was drooling at the mouth though. Definatly need a liscence to own one of them, if they even let you import the armalite version. Anyway, back on topic: Whats this about exploding/banging BB's?

saw them before alright, they'd definitely do horrible things to your aeg, plus they'd be illegal, so not so good there either :)

i have samples of paitball bb's, there is no way i would use them except in a cheap springer, They look rubbish and are about as round as an egg(fried that is)
I'll bring them to hrta tommorow if anyone wants a look.
I've a cheap ak that i might try them in
