I just baught myself a new radio for the car, It's a JVC and has DAB, it came with an ariel you stick to the windscreen of the car, its like two thin metal strings, once you put it up it says its some bother to take it down, so im wondering is it worth putting up, would i pick up much if any signal on DAB down around the south east? From reviews on sites of this radio, im to believe its a pretty strong ariel.

Anyone have any ideas what i could pick up? Radio 5 live would be sweet, that a no-no though?

    Thanks
    Mark

5 Live is possible.... on Mount Leinster (as proved by yours truly! :D)

Otherwise at ground level, not a hope. Not even a hope of the current trials in Dublin and the North East.

But we will know more about the future of DAB here in November, so while its not worth putting up just now if you just drive around Kilkenny, it worth a bash if you are in Dublin regularly. Also, if DAB is going to be rolled out nationwide, I'd expect Mount Leinster to be one of the first transmitter to get it. No BBC channels will be available, though.

    Cheers for the reply.
I drive to carlow everyday for college, and i would be up around kildare/dublin a good bit, and i drive up north every now and then, i think i might put it up, just to have in the car at least!

window aerials are poor, they have deep nulls in reception depending on the position of the car, leading to multipath prone FM reception, or total dropouts on DAB, you might as well get a proper roof aerial installed
