One is the primary and one is the secondary.

Go to www.dell.ie, put in your service code and it will tell if it supports SATA2 or not

If I recall correctly, your warranty is void if you open the base. So Dell told my mother when she bought it, so I cant add the likes of more USB Ports.

Technically that's true for their home warranties but what are they to know (as long as someone doesn't mention it on the phone). If something fails then just remove the add in card, disk, etc before contacting them. That said I've seen how over-protective some mothers can be when it comes to computers.

If you want more USB ports then just buy an external USB hub.

They should be SATA2 and that drive should work fine. I assume you only have one drive and that there is a SATA optical drive plugged into the second used port. There should be a SATA power connector available as there are two on the one line but you'll need to get get a SATA cable long enough to run to the correct port.

External devises are messy, more cables. But, dont some Dell computers come with a sticker which breaks if opened, or a chip which records if the box was open? (I have seen notices on bootup with older machines informing of such an event)

I've never seen one with that sticker you mention and that 'cover was opened' message appears because the PC was opened while powered on.

    Hiya,

Warranty etc does not concern me!

leeroybrown your bang on I do only have one drive and there is a SATA power connector available to the empty bay beside the existing drive. I already picked up a cable to plug into the motherboard so the only thing is SATA2 confusion continues.

I used my asset tag and it is difficult to see if it does support SATA2? I remain confused, was all IDE in my day :)

It's definitely SATA2. Dell probably don't mention the '2' to avoid confusion. SATA2 drives will work with older controllers anyway so it wouldn't be a problem.
