Bit of a rant here folks.

Why is it that most of the jobs on Recruitireland.com seem to be posted by recruitment agencies? They seem to leave the job there for a couple of days then remove it and readvertise the exact same job again the next day! It's so annoying! They must get charged a lot extra for having a job advertised after the first couple of days.

Has anyone else noticed this? Are the recruitment againcies just making these jobs up or do they actually exist and is there any point in reapplying again in a few days for the same job when it's readvertised? I've only actually started looking for a new job in the last three weeks but I'm seriously starting to think the recruitment agencies just make these jobs up in order to get in a load of cv's.

From one of the agencies I was dealing with, I heard first hand that they leave up old or already filled jobs just so they can attract new clients..... and yes, its REALLY annoying when you waste your time creating a cover letter and applying for a job that hasn't existed for months!

I had a really bad experience with one of the agencies via that site.

They advertised a job doing exactly what I was doing in the UK, so I applied and they called me back and did a telephone interview.

It was a specialised area and I was the only applicant (they said) who had the experience and training.
They then said they would be recommending me to the company for the post and would get back to me with confirmation after a meeting the next day.

Never heard from the agency again.
After a few days with no answer by anyone at the agency, I phoned the company direct and they told me that no one had submitted my CV, no one had been head hunting for them and that if they had my CV they would have interviewed me. As it was they had already offered the post to a less experienced candidate who they were having to train up.

A case of d'oh on both sides!
Given this experience, to me that site is a joke.

Thanks guys. I've had a few emails back saying "we'll forward your cv..." and also a few "interviews" over the phone with people from those agencies. I asked one woman what company the job was with and she wouldn't tell me! On another occassion a man told me what company the job was with but then said "they're very slow to interview". I rang the company itself a few days later and was told they had no vacancies  but would advertise in the national press when they did.

I think I'll give up on that site and agencies in general and search the jobs supplements in the papers instead. I think I'll also send my cv to the companies in my area who might need someone. That could be a better bet. Thanks for letting me know I'm not the only one getting frustrated with this!

Agencies are time wasters and sharks.

They'll call you in all the time to interview you there, put you up for the most bullsh*t roles until eventually you're so sick of it you take it, then they try to get you the worst possible salary (sussing you out)...this is also the best possible salary for their clients...the companys...you're only the product and they're trying to get the best quality products for the cheapest price for their clients to maintain contracts!!

Waist your time and sell you out if you take a job...I've had TWO bad experiences with agencies...bigger fool me, but honestly, i know its tough looking for a job, but to make it worth your while avoid agencys at all costs..anyway, only bullsh*t jobs go through agencies, the proper jobs usually go to an internal appointment or they look themselves for the correct candidate.

I own a small recruitment comapany and while some of the points here are (unfortunately) happening, we are all not the same.

We never advertise jobs that are not live, will only bring you in to meet us if we have a job you're interested in, and will tell you what agencies to go to if we dont handle your background.

Additionally I have made free placements with clients to ensure some candidates have got the job (if they were on par with a direct applicant and our fee was costing them the job), have recommended candidates apply directly to roles we aren't handling (taking them out of our pool and potential revenue) and try to help everyone who applies to us within reason.

Not saying we're a modern day recruiting Mother Theresa BUT just saying we're not all sharks.

As for someone taking a job at less than a salary they are happy at, was a gun produced??? If not be an adult and JUST SAY NO............

I had an interview with an agency there the other day, it wasnt till after the interview that she said the company had withdrawn the job :) Sounds like a load of crap I rather she could just say I wasnt what they were looking for.

You sometimes get multiple agencies posting the same job. Especially the MS ones.

Best to post your CV directly to the companies HR. Cut out the middle man.
Recruitireland is useful if you click on the Featured Employers links. This brings up company vacancies and shows who's hiring. It also avoids the recruitment agencies.

    Doogle

sometimes it isnt that straight forward....some larger companies use automated Applicant Tracking Systems and without someone to champion your cause you can get lost and not considered for different roles i.e. apply for x and get rejected even though job y in same company would suit you
