    Hi there,

Does anyone know if it is/or will be possible to connect to the net/virtual console etc using the Irish Broadband Ripwave "Dildo"??

    If so, how?

You will either need to get a wireless router (50ish euro) to make your ripwave wireless in your home or else buy a network adapter to enable you to plug the Wii into the Dildo

Assuming the ripwave modem has an ethernet port, you can buy the Wii ethernet adaptor and plug it straight into that.
Best solution (again assuming the ripwave modem has an ethernet port) is to get a wireless router.

Then the connection will go IBB -> ripwave modem -> router -> Wii (and laptops, any other computers you want to connect, etc).

Given the price of the Wii ethernet adaptor (E30 or more) and the price of a wireless router (as low as E50)

    Wii Ethernet adaptor: http://komplett.ie/k/ki.asp?sku=327690
    Cheap wireless router: http://komplett.ie/k/ki.asp?sku=321925

If you have the USB ripwave modem you can probably share the connection from your PC to the Wii, but that's a little trickier, i can talk you through it if need be, but the best solution is to just connect the Wii straight to the internet

    Thanks for that Igy,

The wireless router sounds the best option alright, at least it will be possible to connect both the wii and the pc at the same time.

I would like to make use of the virtual console as it looks like full price game releases will be thin on the ground for the next few months

I don't know if you have Ripwave already (if you do just ignore) but it isn't a very quick connection and might be annoying for the wii, for an extra 10 euro a month there are good deals around which are 2 to 4 times quicker...

just a thought I had when i was getting broadband for the wii... its well worth btw the virtual console is great, and the other channels are cool to show off...

    Thanks for the advice lookinforpicnic,

it's actually my student brother who has the ripwave - it is slow but it's good enough just to surf the net and download a few virtual console games :)

If he wants to play online, data transfer speeds generally aren't the problem with gaming but ping times. You can get information on pining from google but I doubt ripwave is good enough for online gaming.

It should allow you to download virtual console games but what exactly are the download speeds on ripwave as it may take a long time if they are really low?
