Taxes On Flights Not Used

I had flights booked with Aer Lingus and didn't get to use them, a friend told me that you can claim back for the taxes and charges you paid on these as you didn't travel. Just wondering if anyone knows anything about this or as done it?

    Thanks

You can claim the tax and airport charges back, but you are likely to incur a charge to do so which can cancel out the amount of the refund. I know Ryanair can and do, not to sure about AL. Unlikely to refund the booking charges as these are incurred for the transaction itself.

The other option is to ask them to keep it as credit for you, that way when you book other flights with them, you've got money there to cover the taxes already.

Aer Lingus do have an adminstration charge in this circumstance. Plus, there may be a time limit on making a claim.

Yep, I had to cancel a flight, got a refund for the flight cost from my travel insurance but they made go to Aer Lingus for the tax portion of the fare.

Email Aer Lingus (the address should be on their website or on the email confirm you got for the flight). . did'nt get any email back but just saw a credit on the Visa card that originally paid for the flight.

As for Ryanair - they charge a 25 euro admin fee (each way) and take ages. . last year they made EUR 30 million from unclaimed tax refunds/missed flights!
