    OK,

I recently bought sony vaio vgn-fs315m and its brilliant, so I recomended it to a freind (a non pc type friend). So she picked it up yesterday in dundrum (sony shop) and was moaning about a firewall etc. (she doesn't even know what a firewall is) so she came straight over to the house with the new Laptop so as i could set it up for her.
I took it out of the box (btw slightly different model to mine vgn fs415b) and turned it on without the mains attached so was running it just off the battery. The Vaio logo came up and screen was bright and looked ok but then as windows satrted the screen became impossibly dark. Now i know default battery settings can darken a screen to save power but this was almost complete darkness, anyways I plugged it in and the screen lit up and looked fine, and i loaded up windows again, this time I noticed that around the edges of the screen I could see the little semi circles of light shining in over the black backgound with the windows xp logo. I never noticed this on my laptop which has the same xblack lcd screen.
OK wasn't sure if I actually had a problem so checked all settings etc graphics driver seemed fine and Laptop display with bright background looked excellent
I changed power settings to accomdate i thought for the bizzare battery mode that it had originally booted in and ran it off the battery and it looked grand and i thought problem solved etc.
However when my freind got home she was complaining that the battery had reverted to completely dark setting again even though it was charged and wouldn't light up until its plugged in.
Is this a fault? or whats happening, should we have it replaced?
