Amazon supersaver delivery...

Just thought I'd post up a recent experience with Amazon's free delivery service.
I've been buying stuff from them for years and have never really had a problem with them, apart from how long it takes stuff to get here and how much I pay for the privilege.

So this time for various reasons, I asked a workmate if I could use his northern address to receive a package. Well I ordered the items last monday night, changed my shipping address to his and got free delivery. Got the usual order confirmation eMails promising dispatch midweek and telling me the order would be split into two boxes. Fine I thought, I'll have those just in time for christmas (mostly gifts).
So I get a phonecall from my workmate this morning telling me that both boxes arrived at his house (which is in the middle of nowhere) just now.
I was surprised to say the least....I've had orders from amazon take well over a fortnight to make it to my address, after paying a hefty delivery charge. At the time I ordered there was no way I'd have got my stuff in time for the big day.

I don't know who to blame for the hold ups in delivery this side of the water/border...An Post only do the small packet end, everything else seems to be courier. Given the amount of business amazon must seemingly do this side of the water, should supersaver (or at least reasonably priced) delivery not be an option for Irish customers? It seems to be available in most if not all other EU countries and in the US...
I'd imagine for me to have had the packages delivered here within the same timeframe I'd have had to opt for priority airmail which can cost more than the items I'm ordering lol.
The order I made came to a little over £100....to have had the items delivered here I'd have paid a further £22....that's a hefty saving.

I'd like to have done that, but have gone amazon with priority express which was €19 extra.

What is that? is it royal mail and does it mean I'll have it by the end of the week?
    I ordered an hour ago.

I think it's royal mail parcelforce overnight...depends on the item...they seem to use different couriers depending on the category. Securicor Omega or DHL express seem to do larger elctronic items and royal mail do books, dvds etc from what I can figure out...

I've never used the priority one...at that stage I'd likely venture out of the house and go bricks and mortar shopping unless it was a v. hard to find item..

AFAIK Amazon will use a courier (probably DHL) and you will probably get your order 1-2 days after dispatch.
