Strange problem with local network connection

Strange thing has happened with my local network connection on my PC. I have it connected to a D-link 504 router which acts as a DHCP service issuing a local IP to whatever is connected to it in the range of 192.168.0.2 to 192.168.0.4. I was playing away on Doom3 for a couple of hours and when I dropped back to the desktop the IP that is usually issued to the PC 192.168.0.2 was no longer. It is now assigned the automated IP address when Windows cannot obtain an IP address from the DHCP service from the router.

I've tried re-issuing an IP, rebooting the router a number of times (I don't believe there's any problem with the router as it's syncing with the exchange with no problems). When I attempt to ping the default gateway of 192.168.0.1 the ping command responds with "Destination unreachable". I've tried manually assigning an IP in the 192.168 subnet and assigning the default gateway as 192.168.0.1 so it should be able to get through to the internet via the router but no joy.

I'm now considering re-installing Win XP but would rather not go through the pain. Anyone have any ideas what I could try/check ?

Try a hard reset of the D-Link router, sounds like it may have hung up on the lan side.

I've tried a hard reset a couple of times. I had bit torrent open at the time that loaded up doom3. After exiting back to the desktop my LAN connection had no longer it's IP from the router.

I'm running SP2 and have just seen this which may be related:

    http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;884020

I'll install this when I get home and see if it sorts it.
