First of all, I've never played Championship Manager, but my little lad has it. Version 00/01 (3.81)

He keeps running into a problem where it freezes up on the 12th or 14th August. I don't know much about the game, so I just said I'd see if any of you guys could help me out..?????????

Does this happen every time he starts a new game or is it only happening in his current game?
The game may have become corrupt. If it has then there's not much that can be done.
You could try reinstalling CM and see if that makes any difference.
Is this happening in the first season?

It keeps happening in the same game.

He HAD the demo version until last week whe some "bright spark" told him it was probably because he was running the demo version, so he bought the full version at the weekend with his pocket money and the "bright spark" is now stuck for words!!!

    :o:o

Sorry. Forgot to finish that last post. I tried reinstalling both the demo AND the full version, but neither helped.

Dunno what season he's in. Will have to check with him tomorrow. Just wondering if a patch will fix it. Tried a couple of sites earlier.

    www.eidos.com and www.sigames.com

Eidos is DEAD slow and sigames isn't working for downloads.

    A patch may help.
Does the game crash or does it just hang?
I never patched my version of 00/01 and I didn't have any problems with it.
I have with other versions had problems where an image wouldnt load and the game would crash so I don't install images with the game. I doubt this has anything to do with your problem though.

It hangs, but I've just been informed here that when it happened to him earlier, instead of doing the CTRL, ALT, DEL procedure, he walked away from it and when he came back it had moved on!!

Normally when it happens we wait a while and open the task list and it shows up as not responding, so I just End Task, but this is the first time we've left it. Dunno how long it takes to move on because the other night I waited 4 or 5 mins?

I presume you were on version 3.81 also?

Yeah it would have been 3.81.
It might be just lagging really badly.
Close all programs that arent needed and try and free up as much ram as possible. It might make a difference.
What's the spec of your computer?

It's not great but runs most games ok

    733 Mhz
    384 Mb ram
    32 Mb Graphics Nvidia
    Direct X 9
    Windows 98 SE

Championship Manager is a bit of a resources hog.
Try using Rambooster to free up ram before you start playing.

Actually that's a good idea. I have maxmem installed on the machine but since I put in the other 256 Ram I haven't needed to use it. I'll try that. Thanks for the tip.
