Hi, Our 15 year old has been play sports all his life and is a very high level athlete, doing martial arts, soccer and GAA all at a very high level. We have agreed that he can pause his martial arts progression until after his Jnr Certificate as he is already one grade below a black belt and has kind of gone off it since…

I have a 17 year old and a sixteen year old both claiming to be keen to get a part time job for weekends and holidays. However my eldest says that these days employers don’t want people walking in off the street asking if a job is available and that’s it’s all done online (indeed.ie) or through personal connections (if you…

Sports
How much sports is too much. Not with my kids mam, have a 9 and 10 year old and get constant grief about their sports. They do GAA and soccer and it feels like endless arguments. I think sports is the best thing for them rather than a sedentary one stuck on a tablet

12 yr'o bullied, cheeky because of trauma
I'm worried about my 12 year old son. He's intelligent, confident, engaging, loyal, funny, kind and much loved by family. However he left primary without any friends. It was heart breaking to see all others hugging on the final day, while he looked totally uncomfortable and couldn't get out quick enough. He has no friends…

Confirmation gift - girl
Looking for ideas. Got a girl (god daughter) making her confirmation soon. Was thinking of an infinity necklace or a nice pen engraved with her name. I'm not sure about jewellery as I don't know if she would be into it. Probably most would but unsure. The other idea was a nice pen (Parker or Cross) engraved with her name.…

How much phone time?
My child’s in 2nd year. We were convinced to allow Snapchat when nobody else in secondary school didn’t have it. Then we were convinced to increase the time from 30 mins to 2hrs a day. But I think it was a mistake. Much too much time is spent in bed on the phone and the moods that follow the screen time running out are…

How to encourage social life -Tweens
Hi, as a parent to tween, I'm noticing the life nowadays is so different than before and obviously, there's more technology and people are getting less socialable in real life. Health insurance for teens
We never had health insurance for the kids. What do people do when kids hit 16 and are no longer eligible for childrens hospital? Do you put them on a private plan at that point? (PS - is there any active parenting forum in Ireland? This one seems very inactive, but I dont know of any others_).

I am thinking of sending my son for Senior Cycle to this college. It's small - about 130 pupils in the while secondary school. Good subject choice. Nice atmosphere, apparently very interested teachers. The local community school do their best, but lots of kids not interested and mitching. However, Stratford College, a fee…
