As it happens, I'm actually in Cork city this afternoon :pac:
Some spits and spots of rain starting to fall as well. I swear it follows me around!

All them summers bar 1990 did record 30c yes - though 1990 was very close to reaching it.

Why does Met Eireann's highest temp records only go back to 1988  why don't they show the 50s/60s/70s too??!

Interestingly from those stats, it has hit 30 c or above on July 19th 3 times in the last decade.

so far I think were doing very well this year. May was mostly great with some really good spells of fine weather with a few warm days, then this spell is lasting almost a week, Thursday could still be pleasantly warm in the south and east. This spell has certainly saved June from being a terrible month, because the first 2 weeks were bad and it looks like the final week is gonna be just as poor.

    1998: 25.4c at Belmullet on September 21st
'98 stands out - the warmest day of "summer" was three weeks into Autumn.
Theres nothing unusual about 25 degrees in September but it clearly was a very cool summer that year.

The highest temperature of meteorological Summer 1998 was 25.3c (just 0.1c less) at Kilkenny on August 8th and Casement Aerodrome on August 9th:

Met Éireann's bulletins only go back to April 1986 - whilst they have an agrometeorological bulletin going back to January 1970 though it is not nearly as detailed. I don't know why to be honest, it is very annoying that this is the case for a statistician like myself.

Yes, we spoke about that in last Summer's discussion thread (I'll try and find the discussion about it). It's very interesting indeed.

EDIT: Can't believe I'm complaining here about the heat yet I said this last year:

Hey in Ireland, there's no problem with getting excited by a FEW DAYS of hot weather (not 1).

Yeah I have dropped to 27.4c now so 28.6c is my confirmed high.

    My warmest days on record

    1. 1 August 1995, 30.4c
    2. 19 July 2006, 30.3c
    3. 9 July 2013, 29.7c
    4. 2 August 1995, 29.5c
    5. 8 July 2013, 28.9c
    6. 10 July 2013, 28.9c
    7. 11 July 2013, 28.8c
    8. 18 July 2006, 28.8c
    9. 19 July 2016, 28.6c
    10. 19 July 2013, 28.5c

So this day ranks as my 9th warmest day ever recorded.

    I just noticed something?

    19 July 2006: 30.3c
    19 July 2013: 28.5c
    19 July 2016: 28.6c

Another good day here in happy to report but clear signs that it's about to end. We've had 5 lovely days though but a breakdown forecasted will mean 3 out of the 4 weeks in June were rubbish.

10pm reports. very warm in the west ,Shannon at 21 degrees. even places like Mace head and Newport in Mayo at 20 degrees at 10pm .....

and back to 19c in Cork city (though 24c in Fermoy) when it was roasting earlier and the last 4 days! Amazing the temp differences we get in a small island. Cork has done fantastically in this spell but there have been 2 or 3 sunny spells in recent years (including earlier this year) where we've had to listen everyone in the country going on about the amazing weather when its been cloudy and 17c degrees here. I think that fate has befallen the NW this time up to now - but from met.ie I see now however that Mayo and Sligo seem to be at 23c and 24c this afternoon. Enjoy it lads and lassies!

I drove from Sandymount to Harolds Cross in Dublin 2 days ago at about 5. With the sea breeze it was 19c at the coast and only a few KMs away it was 24c, according to my car temp.

A very muggy, humid night in Tralee [bring it on :D] the first night of this spell where you don't need a cardigan. Why can't it always be like that! Though the downside of this warm night is that there's thunder storm activity. Big enough claps of thunder and flashes of lightening, though very spread out, with spats of rain, though looking out at my patio I see the spats are turning into heavier showers. The beginning of the end I guess.:(

    Back to 22*C @ 4 a.m. Did I read that 3 a.m. reading wrong?

It seems to have been a strong Foehn event at Valentia as the high temperatures and lower dewpoints only occurred as the wind direction was from 140 °and stronger, in line with Foehn strengthening from the high ground to the southeast. At 3 am it switched to 170 ° and the temperature and wind dropped.

KNMI overcooking temps a bit here, however UK temps look broadly in line with general forecasts.

    24.2c at 10am.
We will easily get 30c depending on cloud cover.

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,913 ✭✭✭Danno

Screen max of 26.8c yesterday, probably would have went higher only for the cloud rolling in around tea-time. Currently 22.7c with wetbulb bang on 20c.

  • Registered Users Posts: 33,709 ✭✭✭✭Cantona's Collars

One deluge an hour ago in Enniscorthy. Sun burning off cloud now and temps rising.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,511 ✭✭✭Billcarson

After some rain earlier cloud now breaking, temp 22.4c

  • Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators Posts: 16,716 Mod ✭✭✭✭Gonzo

I don't think it will reach 30C anywhere today, too much cloud. I think 27 or 28C may be the max if sunshine is good later on.

  • Registered Users Posts: 13,513 ✭✭✭✭sryanbruen

Humidity is very high for me right now but it is not oppressive thanks to a nice breeze.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 40,061 ✭✭✭✭Harry Palmr

Cloudy with light rain at 8 am, now clear skies with a breeze but very warm/humid already 21.4
