If the iPhone 3GS dont work on Three, why buy a iPhone 4 ?

I bought an iPhone 3GS and was told if I had internet network issues I could return the phone now after over two months they have Finally agreed there is an issue with the iPhone using internet on Three.

The now won't take it back as my 7day return has passed. Even though I called 2 days after I recieved the phone.

This is part of what I was told...

Three manager "Can you call and send txts, Yes... Well thats what a phone is for, so it's working....
Imagine internet on an iPhone, Actually cant send pic messages too. even with correct setting.

Presumably because they'll be officially carrying it, and would be expected to have it working on their network? My 3G works fine on their network, BTW.

You never have issue with internet or have to search networks to connect to 3G ?
Did they not officially sell it to me ? I taught they did ?

Did you buy the Iphone 3GS from Three? If so, that's shocking what they've said to you!

Worse that happens sometimes is I have to put it into airplane mode every now and again. And no, Three didn't carry it officially. They sourced unlocked ones and sold them to upgraders only. Never appeared on their website or in adverts, and not offered to new customers. Meteor have done the same.

I really dont care how the got sourced the iphone and I paid the same as any network so I should get the same service. Also I had an unlocked iphone already with this issue (only on Three) and was told, well this is a Three iPhone and you won't have these issues....

    THEY LIED....

Yes I got this as an upgrade, Waste of money, Waste of Upgrade as I already had an I phone.
This was said to me on an escalation call by a Manager. Nice

SHOCKER - mobile phone network lies!!!!!!

Well, there's your first lesson - you should care if they are not officially supplying a phone - their "support" will be non-existent.

Option 1) Demand to speak to someone higher up the food chain, ie that guy's manager.

Option 2) Ring them back, ask for a customer complaint number, phone ComReg and file an official complaint.

Once Three hear what you're doing, they should be more likely to help you.

It drops network and stays on 3 rather than 3G, So then when you want to use the net, you have to search for networks and select 3G and try get that connected.

Where are you using this phone? Mine works perfect in Dublin and most other areas, have to switch from 3 to 3G sometimes if I need to connect to the net but I nearly always had to do that with every 3 phone now and again, the iphone is just a bit worse at holding signal but once your using the data connection it stays there, especially when your tethering.

Just thought to something stephen, when I was using a 3G iphone on 3 had terrible reception, the older 3 sim cards have slightly bigger gold contacts, try doing a sim swap tomorrow for one of the new ones, you'll see the difference in the 2 sims if you look at the gold bit on them, try that, made a big difference for me.

    Cool, Thanks...
Just dont like the way they lie and say they will take the phone back before I bought it.... Then there like You can make calls..... it works

yea they would have take it back but distance selling laws means you have to have it returned withing 7 days if buying online or with telesales. You'll always be better off with bricks and mortar as they can swap the phone on the spot if there's a fault. I reckon the sim might help you though, if your in dublin it should nearly be on 3G all the time.

I'm on 3 and have had no problems so far. One thing though, if the phone they sold you was sourced as an unlocked one that they sell unofficially then it will work on any other network. You could move. If they try to enforce their contract, you can point out that since they can't provide a service and won't change the phone for one that works you had no choice but to take your business elsewhere. Just make sure you have every contact you made with them well recorded in case they do try to take it to court!

I had a couple of issues with it at first. I got a call from an iPhone specialist or so he called himself. He was really helpful and got everything sorted on the first call.

OP - I was told about the issue and it happens from time to time but its not that big a deal. That fella told me that there is a fix on the way also and that it will not be a permenant issue.

I called their Mumbai call center and while they werent great but they arranged a call back for me from that fella and I got it the next day. I use the internet on it alot too.

Its not perfect but it should get better.

Seriously though, If they told you that they should really carry out what they said. Surely they record their calls. Ask them to have it checked and if that was said they should legally have an obligation to take it back.

They cant make promises like that and not keep them.

I would call them tomorrow and ask them politely to listen to the call and have it checked. See if they will do anything for you then.

I have unlocked iPhone on 3. Internet works once I can get 3G signal.

I have no problems with iPhone 3G on 3 and I even use it as a modem using iPhoneModem app and it gives me upto 2Mb connection.

I understand where you are coming from with regard to Customer Service, they are awful but they might be getting better now that the Waterford office has opened.

Good luck but don't give up on the phone, just move network!

    Update.
Still waiting for a reply to a mail I sent on July 4th. Also still waiting for call back from manager in Waterford office.
I called head office today and got a call back about 15mins later. Very nice girl and understood my frustration with all the calls and mails.
When her manager is back on Tuesday I will get an update. Positive call. About time. :)

Both my iPhones work perfectly on 3 -using 3 Ireland, 3UK and 3 Italy SIMs. There are no problems, as long as the settings are correct (and that includes the CORRECT settings for MMS, often wrong on these forums).

However, both 3UK and 3Italy have issued official carrier settings for their services, and as such, the phone tends to perform better with these than with manual settings, to the clear detriment of 3IRL performance, with all its added topographical issues.

It is my understanding that these settings were made available yesterday and should cure any issues,

****OK I was about to post the update below and 3G dropped and server stopped responding, i tried twice and nothing, now im using wifi...
Has the Carrier update not worked....

    ______________________
There was a carrier update msg on my phone this morning.
Maybe connection issue resolved. Well 3G just dropped as I'm typing so we will see. Too early to tell.
Also I still got duped into buying an iPhone while they didn't have the settings so I ain't dropping that. Hope to hear back from three on Tuesday.

stephen, 3G and GSM are features that they say the iphone has. if they are selling it on their network and its not working, then it was misrepresented advertising and you are entitled to a full refund. Also, their 7 day return policy cannot effect your statutory rights. these are that you can return any item if its in a suitable condition 28 days after purchase evfen if its simply a change of mind.
