Of course. All finals would be (unless TV3 are the broadcaster).

Looks like the solution here for HD is the same as for the motorway network.

Just put signs up saying channel is now HD and the old dual carriage is now a motorway!!!

Disappointing that the Munster Football Final was not in HD today. Don't understand what RTE are up to here. Two matches in HD last Sunday, neither of them finals, and a final today and it's only upscaled SD. Picture of the HD outside broadcast truck outside McHale Park, Castlebar last Sunday.

seems like RTE forgot to read the script

Having seen & recorded the "Human Planet" series on BBC HD & being the total tv nerd that I am, I decided to view the start of the programme from within 1 foot of my tv screen. As the broadcast started the "RTE Two HD" dog was clear & crisp, but about 15 seconds into the broadcast, the dog suddenly changed in clarity & less well defined.
Question is just it the dog resolution being altered or the whole onscreen image. To me the image definately seems softer than the original BBC broadcast. Pity.
Also just saw the promo for the GAA coverage on RTE this weekend ~ no mention of HD.

Dublin v Wexford in the Leinster Football Final and Tipperary v Waterford in the Munster Hurling Final are in HD today. Studio coverage also in HD. Announced at the start, both would be in HD. Graphics also indicated this.

While happy to see a HD production, absolutely no indication in the EPG that this programme is in HD. Surely this information needs to be provided in advance like the Sky EPG.

Sure isn't RTE2 in HD all the time now ;), we should only be seeing the HD dog for programmes like this and like you say it should have been heavily publicised and RTÉ should run a competition before the All-Ireland finals, guess the score of the game and win a Saorview Receiver without the typical premium rate number nonsense and that would result in alot of awareness and free publicity. Saorview could be sponsor of the Hurling also instead of "RTÉ Sport".

But Saorview is not part of RTE. It belongs to RTE NL, who paid out all their cash on it and borrowed up to the hilt to build it. They have no money left.

RTE are just a broadcaster, a user of the service, just like TV3 and TG4.

Yes but I'm sure it's the same situation as ESB/Electric Ireland vs ESB Networks or Bord Gáis Energy vs Bord Gáis Networks, both are treated as separate entities.

Not sure - as far as I know RTÉNL is a fully owned subsidiary of RTÉ. The following is taken from the RTÉNL website.
In spring 2011, RTÉ will launch a new national free-to-air digital television service, named SAORVIEW. RTÉNL is rolling out the necessary national digital transmission system in preparation for the introduction of the new service.

Digital Switch Over (DSO) is national and EU policy. The Government department with lead responsibility for DSO is the Department of Communications, Energy and Natural Resources (DCENR). The BAI and ComReg also have responsibilities (as specified in the Broadcasting Act 2009) in relation to DSO.

The EU has mandated the end of 2012 as the final date for Analogue Switch Off (ASO), by which time Ireland needs to launch a replacement digital transmission system to ensure all Irish audiences can continue to receive free-to-air television.

Broadcasting legislation makes clear that RTÉ has the primary responsibility for providing the new free-to-air digital transmission system to replace the existing outdated analogue transmission system which has been in operation since December 1961.

I would have thought that it was up to each individual broadcaster to populate the EPG as they wished. I wouldn't have thought it was the responsibility of RTÉNL to insert the programme data, they can only broadcast whatever they are provided by each channel.

RTE have a new DG, and he may have a different slant. I get the impression that things have changed and RTE NL are not the golden boys (and girls) that delivered DTT, but the naughty ones that spent all the cash. €70 million in the hole is a lot to make up cutting salaries and making people redundant. There is no more money.

It looks like most of the match OB footage on tonight's Sunday Game programme is in HD. Studio shots are still SD of course.

The Sunday game of the 24 July looks like the same situation as 2 weeks ago. The Limerick Wexford match looks glorious in HD but there no HD quality cameras in Thurles for the two hurling matches. Did anyone take notice of the clarity of the live coverage of the Waterford Galway match today? Now watching Tyrone V Armagh and it not HD. It looks like the footage from Croke Park was not in HD either.

    June 26th - Football Connacht S/F Mayo v Galway & Football Leinster S/F Dublin v Kildare
    July 10th - Football Leinster F Dublin v Wexford & Hurling Munster F Tipperary v Waterford

This week's RTÉ press release indicates all the remaining 8 GAA minor & senior S/F championship games this month will be in HD.

RTÉ Two's GAA coverage in HD tonight was no consolation while seeing Tyrone getting beat. :o

I thought the HD was really good tonight - really good when combined with slow mo camera

Was that the first time the slow-mo camera was used. Had a few different angles tonight too.

Maybe they've been inspired by the slo-mo on BBC HD Formula One.

HD looked great during minor semi-final. The analysis is in HD too.

But the footage seemed to suddenly change to SD when they were showing the Waterford team a few minutes ago. It's been upscaled SD since then. Hope they fix this soon.

Somebody at RTE has fallen asleep.

I've been flicking between a recording of last nights Dublin game & todays live hurling & the differcence in PQ is glaring. As has already been suggested someone has hit the wrong button or fallen asleep.

Well technically it is in 1080 all the time:), but it looked like someone had routed the SD feed instead of the HD feed into the encoder, but all good now!
