Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Ok, I'm probably going to bombard ye with plenty of questions over the coming weeks/months regarding Rotterdam :D:D

I've strongly pencilled myself into entering this, 99.99% sure I am barring any injury or family emergency.

But seeing as this is my first foreign marathon(not inc. Dublin :P), I'm not sure of the time scale regarding of entering/booking hotel/ flights ect...

So, is it time enough booking everything in the new year or should I start looking at hotels entry now???

Has anyone any plans made?? Or am I panicking a bit already :D:D

You can book a lot of hotels without paying a deposit & where you can get a refund if you cancel up to 48 hours before hand, I used booking.com. So you could easily book that now.

I was reading on old threads that the fastest pacers are 3:15, is that correct?

Would have thought they would have at least 3 hours pacers

Also reading on previous years threads that the pacers are not the best, so might be best not to rely on them.

That's such a shame. In my three previous marathons the pacers where superb, a bit disappointing that a well established marathon like this can't get pacers correct.

They've had 3hr pacers before, organised by Runner's World NL

    Hi all,

Just a few points from my perspective:

It's potentially a fast course, though I'd say London and Edinburgh are slightly quicker due to the downhill starts. Weather could be a big factor.

I note the comments about congestion at the start - it does start on a dual carriageway and there are no sharp turns in the first few k, so the only problem is getting stuck behind slower runners. The only remedy there is to turn up early.

Expo location is good, close to the Central train station.

Support is great, very enthusiastic, apart from 30-35k

Bag drop and pick-up are well located.

For the men, there are urinals on the street close to the entrance to the pans - knowing that in advance would have saved me anxious moments in a café just minutes before the start.

Drinks are in cups with a sponge in the top - there's a knack to it but it is possible to get a good drink. I managed it at about half the stations.

Public transport in Holland is wonderful, you could stay a long way away and still be sure of making the start.

Mrs. aero read somewhere that 59 days out is the optimum time for flight booking - we did that and got them for about €80. I think Ryanair might be flying to Schipol soon, or you could do Eindhoven and get a train (note: trains are not cheap).

Looking to book a hotel with possibility to cancel. Any recommendations on hotels? Will probably stay a couple of days in Rotterdam and same in Amsterdam on the way back. How many days are ye planning to stay? Just wondering if there is much point in hanging around or if I should spend more time in Amsterdam.

    Thanks!

Most places on booking.com have free cancellation and as already said you could stay miles away from the start line and still be OK with transport links. I stayed in Nootdorp which is nearly in the Hague but got to the start line in 30 mins thanks to the metro.

Really like the sounds of this marathon (flat and good crowds).

Funnily enough from London flights are cheap into Rotterdam and a day out in Amsterdam and a few beers seems too good to turn down.

Having a marathon to aim for will give me proper direction with training, I'm just trying to convince myself here. Going for an hours run and Wednesday and if I feel good I'll sign up!

Over in Rotterdam and Amsterdam at the mo. Prefer Rotterdam as a city and think it'll be a better marathon to run than Berlin.

Rotterdam is nice and flat and there'll be more to look at than Berlin.

Only problem I reckon will be the wind

If staying in Rotterdam, anything near the Coolsingel will have you close to everything i.e marathon start, expo, metro stations if flying into Schipol and travelling to Rotterdam via train then. Booked the citizenM hotel myself which is central to everything listed above and keeps herself happy to.

Thanks Tang1, just to have the Coolsingel area details is great. When i go into the route on the website it doesn't show anything so I wasn't sure what area to be looking. We will probably fly into Schipol and travel up by train and likewise have to have something for himself to keep him occupier!!

Ps i was in Tang recently at a funeral and assumed thats where you got your name from. is that your neck of the woods?

The Athletes are staying at The Hilton if that' helps :D Hotel Emma is also popular with marathoners and there are a few nice apartments on Air B n B. I think others were saying that the transport system is so good you could stay anywhere and be at the start line very quickly.

Yeah born & bred Tang alright but gone out of there good 15/16 years now. Most people I meet think I make the name up when I tell them where i'm from, it's only runners who seem to know it exists.

I hope you didn't enter it at all. It's not necessary if using a card for payment. Did you enter a Dr or Cr card number or pay via PayPal?

I'm in!!! Running the Clonakilty half in a couple of weeks but going to take it handy until I resume marathon training after Xmas.

Would appreciate it if anyone could share any good hotel deals. Gonna stay the 9th & 10th followed by a couple of days in Amsterdam.

I just realised that I should point out that we travelled out on the Thursday before and back on the Tuesday after race day which probably made it easier to get cheap flights. It's very well served though so you should be fine.

I have ran rotterdam three times, may return next year ,not decided yet.

re accommodation recommend any hotel near the main train station ,which is a short walk to start and finish.

city centre near finish is a good buzz for a few hours after race, but it then
empties out.rotterdam on a sunday night is quiet.

Are most people looking at flying in on the Saturday and home on Monday ? Is there likely to be a boards beers on the Sunday ? (Would most likely be traveling alone to this so if there's nothing social happening would consider hopping the plane straight back on Sunday night)

Going Saturday to Monday myself, with the potential numbers going surely we could organise a few post PB beers somewhere after.

Trying to enter and its a bit tricky, wish they just took debit or credit cards. Maybe I'm being a bit dull after a long day at work, it seems to be a bit of a pain to enter with this IBAN business! I've a UK card not sure if that makes any difference.

Your IBAN is for your bank account, it has nothing to do with your card. You should be able to find it on your bank statement or on your online banking

All caps, no spaces? Just tried a couple of different ones, all worked. Are you sure the error message (in red at the top) is about the postcode? It also weirdly requires a housenumber in the address field

Yeah I'm going to sign up but can't seem to put in my payment details. Maybe as its a sterling account (currently living in England) and they request euro details, I've emailed them to ask.

Looking forward to getting back into it, will need to be realistic about my aims. Flights and accommodation all booked.
