M11 - Arklow to Rathnew

I was down in Arkla over the May weekend
Took these, 'twas a bit overcast, but there was a bit of progress.
There's several short sections with the sub-base done, so the hardcore will go on top of this, and one short section (<100m) between Barndarrig and Jack Whites with some hardcore down.

The bridges are coming along at a pace. The only traditional bridge construction is at the junction at Dempsey's Roof truss place at the bottom of the hill from the Arkow bypass.


3123 is the sub-base at the bend at the end of the straight north of Jack Whites, coming towards Barndarrig
3127 is the road up from the Tap and then left back towards Barndarraig
3128 is looking back towards Barndarraig from where pic 3127 was taken.
3130 is the road up from the Tap,

Can someone point me to how the plan for the new M11? I've looked and surprisingly can't find anything.

I live in Redcross and was told by a local publican that in order to get to Redcross/Barndarrig you'll need to exit at the Beehive or Jack White's. If that's the case, I can't for the life of me figure out what's going on with the bridges in front of LiL Doyles.

What I can't seem to be able to picture in my mind is how the two bridges (the one passing over the existing N11 and the one over the exit to Kilbride) could possibly work as a motorway. They seem to be at quite acute angles and only 50 meter apart.

At Lil Doyles, the new road is crossing over the existing road and the road to Kilbride. There will be no access to the new road here when built, any access now is for construction.

maps seem hard to find alright, I'd ask the nra for a copy of the EIS

There are no plans for an additional side road but traffic could use the R773 from Jack White's to get to the R750 to continue south to Arklow and vice versa. From Arklow traffic could take the R772 (Old N11) south to Gorey and vice versa.

The proposed road development necessitates the realignment or crossing of a
number of Regional and Local Roads in order that they can be integrated into the
proposed local R772 all-purpose road network, and their existing junctions with
the N11 can be closed off to improve road safety. Other than the junctions
described in the previous section there will be no access provided between these
roads and the dualled N11.

This reminds me , there was an application to close the LILOs near the rugby club. What happened to this? I think the road parallel to the N11 (west side) becomes the R772, and then

the north end of Arklow Bypass to Scratenagh and the proposed overbridge

Motorway re-designation will be up to The Minister

Dear Mr Eejit who bothers sending correspondence to us ,

Thank you for your [latest] enquiry.
The new section of N11 will be dual carriageway and of sufficient standard to be re-designated as motorway. There are no plans for re-designation at present. The route of the new road is to the west of the Ballinameesda bends; the Coillte access will be from the existing N11 which will be re-designated as a Regional Road when the new section is opened to traffic.

This has probably been answered previously but I can't find the answer:
Will there be a toll on the new road?

I tried searching the NRA site and Googling but I didn't find a definite answer.

I drove down last weekend, no pics. Hard to see while driving, but I think some heavy work been done on northern end. Also work near Arklow bypass, maybe for the new distributor road? There are some road graders (I think that's what they are called) on site now too.

Traffic Management Updates

TM Requirements for June 2014:



Section A

Site Accesses A2(Ch1400), A3(Ch3450), C3(Ch8400), D2(Ch12650), G1(Ch15600) and G2(Ch14500)
Plant Crossings on Side Roads throughout Section A to be in operation
Temporary realignment of L95114



Section B

Lane 1 and H.S. Closure for Gantry Installation



Section C

Existing H/S on northbound and southbound carriages will remain closed as is the current situation with the exception of some barriers being relocated throughout the works to allow ramps to be constructed. To relocate the barriers we will require slow lane closures for periods during the days in question. Slow lane closures may also be required for edge planning and kerb works.
M11 motorway will be closed on the night 14th /15th June 2014 between 19:00 and 06:00 in order to install beams onto the new over-bridge.



O&M

Lane 2 mobile and static lane closures N/B and S/B in order to carry out grass cutting to the Arklow Bypass median
H/S mobile and static lane closures in order to carry out routine maintenance and grass cutting to the verges of Section B.
Other TM may be used as and when required for the repair of defects, inspections and emergency response.

Took these at the weekend heading south at various points.
Camera phone + moving car = poor detail

Top pic is taken from just before the Tap (I'll miss those bends)
The next one with the VW is shortly after the Barndarrig Station.
The next one is along the longer of the overtaking straights before Jack Whites, not much going on along there since it was marked out.

Next 2 are of the bridge over the RedCross river just before Scratenagh cross, DTE Timber Frames and Trusses.

The remainder are on the run up to the end of the Arklow dual carriageway bypass.

I've probably driven that road 300 times and had to refer to Google Maps for most of the above place names

When is the expected completion date of this project? I thought 2016 but had read it was ahead of schedule and now late 2015 ??

Coming down to Wexford last night and there was stop/go between Barndarrig and Jack White's for resurfacing and they were digging out cats' eyes.

Bit puzzled trying to work out what this was for. It appears to be that all they did was resurface and remark the road between Barndarrig and Jack White's, although the new markings are now double white lines, sometimes broken on either side for overtaking, etc. and they put cats' eyes in to match new markings. I'm sure it's all part of the master plan but just wondering if anyone knows which part?
I presume upgrading what will become the R road is part of the contract, so maybe they're doing this now, but seems a bit early...

Not a road builder so haven't a clue, just a curious interested party as I travel this road quite a bit

Possibly they'll do the new R road first, so traffic can use it while they work on the new DC?

I drove past this - the Kilmurray diversion - last week and it is really going to slow traffic, especially at peak times. The carriageway seems narrow enough, there is no shoulder to allow for breakdowns, punctures etc and at that time there was no barrier to prevent anyone skidding off into the earthworks. (I presume a barrier will have to be put in place?)

The other diversion in Barndarrig seemed to be progressing well enough - I presume it has to finish before the school reopens in September. If not there are going to be a lot of happy local kids and an equal number of unhappy parents
