Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Well there's so much time to write and they really don't expect much, doesn't the question say you have to write at least 600 words, which for me is like 1.5 pages, with all the time if you can't think of a story you can plan it out for a few minutes and have no trouble with timing.

I thought it says 2.5 pages? how long are you all writing for your essays?

I was told to write four pages :o
Are ye all learning the prós and filíocht from 2012 and 2013? :(

Yes, just incase. I can't risk them coming up and then it affected my grade. I need Gaeilge to go well :o

I have quite small handwriting, so that's all it takes for me to get to the minimum word count, but I always have the time to go much further than that.

Likelihood of an essay on daoine oga coming up in yer opinions?

I think very likely , something has come up like every year so :p

  • Registered Users Posts: 18 gal555

I had written around 5 pages for an essay in the mocks.....but an elaborate plan.

We were told the reason is so that you can actually afford to sit there and gather your opinions on the given topic rather then just regurgitate a learned off essay because you've no time.

Makes sense really....the way the English paper 1 should be I think!

I'm covering social media, economic crisis, life of youth and Irish pride....
    Hopefully that'll get me something.

I don't suppose anyone has something high standard for Daoine Óga that they wouldn't mind sharing? It's a glaring gap in the stuff I have, and I really don't feel good about not having it.

Does anyone know a seanfhocail about love?
Something like true love sees past your faults.... That type of thing?
    Thanks

I'm writing a scéal too. I thought I was alone. I have one that I can adapt to quite a few titles. I'm also presuming a negative title after the last two years.

If éad comes up I'm stuck though.

Can anyone think of a seanfhocail or saying with regard to love? In case fíor grá comes up?

Something that says 'true love ignores your mistakes' or ' true love sees pasts your faults' ??
    Thanks

Thank you what does it mean exactly?

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Education Moderators Posts: 27,264 CMod ✭✭✭✭spurious

Sorry, I just thought that might help too and was coming back to edit it. It means 'Love conceals imperfections and defects' - or roughly that.
Searc is a kind of literary word for love.

Does anyone know where I can find a summary of a thig na tit orm in ENGLISH. I'm fine for the Irish but I don't know the story and I don't want to read the whole book.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,673 ✭✭✭aleatorio

Realistically speaking, would writing 600-700 words in good irish be enough? I know they say it is, but would it really? :pac:

My irish teacher said to us 600 words is plenty, regards Aiste anyway. Anymore and if you're not repeating yourself or going off topic , the more you write, the more likely you are to make silly grammar mistakes. I wrote 2 pages and 3/4 in my mocks and got an A2 and apparently our mocks were marked "fairly".

Has anyone got a good essay on the Irish language.. I had an A1 one but lost it and I'm so worried its going to come up now, please please please it'd be so appreciated!

  • Registered Users Posts: 65 ✭✭Fiske

My Irish teacher is amazing and she said that the 600 words or whatever they ask you to write is fine. I know that writing less than what they ask can potentially bring you down a lot, but writing more can also do more harm than good since they care much more about accuracy in your Irish than the actual content of the essay, and writing more just gives you more opportunity to make mistakes.

On another note, if anyone has an essay on Daoine Óga they'd be willing to share, I will love them forever. I have nothing at all on it due to missing a lot of school this year and now I'm really worried about it coming up.

Awh thats such a relief <3 I feel like if I can take forever to plan and write out phrases and stuff and get my thoughts in order, and take my time writing, it'll be much better than a rushed 4 page essay :pac:

They aren't that nice though If you are looking for an A1.
I do understand that you make more inaccuracies the more you write . But my intro and closing would take an a4 page in itself . I have so much irish learned off anyways . I might as well use it , seeing as I will never have anything to do with Irish ever again once I'm finished :).

  • Registered Users Posts: 58 ✭✭cferry3

I wrote just over 2pages for my mocks and got 84/100 so u don't need anything like 4!!

I agree with you. Yeah, of course it's possible to get an A1 with a smaller essay (~600 words), but you do leave a bit up to chance, and if you have good Irish then a few mistakes spread out over a lot of good work looks a lot better than a smaller amount of mistakes but with less written in between. My mocks story was 14 A4 pages long and got 100/100, now obviously that's a bit extreme, but you shouldn't limit yourself to 2-3 pages, you have all that time, and if you can think of a plan, you may as well use it.

Our teachers saying Dís and Colscaradh, I think. I clearly need more Gaeilge prep. She's new to the job and hoping their going to cycle through the syllabus. Essay's focused mainly on the culú and a good few topics linked in to it so emigration, politics, lives of young people today, education, even sport.

I have a feeling the prós will be cáca milis/an coilear lasa (always a choice between them two) if its cáca milis then I think the fillíocht will be colscaradh, however if dís comes up I think it will be with an spailpin fánach. Essay I think it will be something like "Rudaí a théann I bhfeidhm ar saol an déagóra." I can't predict anything for an trial because I do Gafa, but to anyone who does Gafa, my guess would be something on Breandán or Eoin because Eithne has come up the past two years

Definitely :-) quality not quantity! No matter how much you write if you're not answering the question accurately you're not going to get the A :-) Don't worry!

Who here does the "Dánta Breise" section in paper 2? I'm thinking about answering on that instead of a thig na tit orm but I need to a know a few things! In part 2 of the question when it asks what is meant by a few of the lines in the poem, how much of an explanation would you need to give? How much would you need to write?

I'm not leaving it out, just focusing on the things on that list. I will be going over it. I just haven't really heard anyone mention it in their predictions. Not that we should be relying on predictions after that whole thing with Heaney.

Dont be worrying anyone, you have the biggest part of your exam done with the oral and then with the tape you have 50% of your exam done before you even get into the written paper. Your half way home at that! :) At this stage if you are really worried just focus on Media and Daoine oga as essays and then An Thriail or whatever one you are doing yourself. As someone has already said the pros and filiocht are only worth 10% for the amount of work you have to put in so dont stress now if you havent got that done. Listen to your tape a few times and be familiar with the questions and the same goes for your reading comprehensions which are worth the same as your essays. You will honestly be fine just make use of the time you have left wisely!! :)
