Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

What and Fisher is known for his mobility?!

He's had 4 good games, in his previous 30 or so did nothing, he has to make it consistent!

Talk of him being an MVP candidate is just bullsh1t and I'd really question people's knowledge of the sport to suggest he could be!

The whole mvp thing is tongue-in-cheek, I thought that much was obvious... Last year Miami were chanting MVP at Joel Anthony! What I'm saying is that he has game, I'm not sure that he will be a starter, but a great role player/sixth man. Plus the knicks have won 5 in a row, when the knicks are doing well its good for all the nba, they love an unlikely hero!

I think we all know there's only going to be one MVP this season:

Nah, of course it's completely premature and conditional...on stats alone LBJ would have to get it if MVP were handed out today...but it's just for fun.

Having said that, what I like is that he's showing qualities consistent with great players and not just beginner's luck. I was particularly impressed with his ability to step up as a leader against the Lakers and hit the big scores when it counted to kill them off. There's having skill, there's being a winner, and there's leading from the front: not many can combine all 3 while playing for the league's 2nd biggest franchise against the biggest. Especially when the world is watching and expecting you to fail.

The difference between him and the most similar US sports story of the year, Tim Tebow, is that Tebow was just doing what his expected job was...except at crucial moments and regardless of if he was having an average game or not. Whereas Lin is showing a severe step up in class on a consistent basis.

So IF he were to do that on a consistent basis, unseat a healthy Carmelo (who is still an All-Star, whether that's a BS pick or not) and lead the Knicks to a strong playoff spot...who would be more valuable to their franchise than that on current form? He'll never get it, mind, even in the unlikely event that all of the above did happen.

The officials let kobe travel for that game winner last night. Saw it on youtube and I dont know how he didnt get called for it

There was no travel on the game winner!

Anyone fancy Utah -4 points away to New Orleans tonight. 10/11 seems a nice price to me.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,172 ✭✭✭✭kmart6

They had a tough enough game last night away to Memphis so could be tired...prob go with it though!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,172 ✭✭✭✭kmart6

Well that was a turn up for the books!

Certainly was a turn up for the books. Not to worry, Miami Heat -1 tonight at 10/11 will make up for it ;)

Cue me when I wake up and check the score:

Actually sorry, it was -2 I got them at. They were -1 early this morning but jumped to -2 and are now -3.

Still, a cracking bet IMO. Well worth a decent lump.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,172 ✭✭✭✭kmart6

Haha I will laugh if I've jinxed it, checked it myself a while back and it was -2...crazy...beat them by 35 the first time they played!!!!!!!!!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,172 ✭✭✭✭kmart6

Ah only 15 this time around!

And that ladies and gentleman is a perfect example from Toronto of how to lose a basketball game in the last 2 minutes!

Now...I wonder how much are Lin's 8 TO's going to be ignored!

There definitely was. Very clear actually.

Linsanity continues with a Knicks blowout against the Kings tonight. Lin had a career high 13 assists to go along with 10 points and 5 boards. He played pretty well and the Knicks didn't seem to miss any shots at all tonight.

Well your the only person who seems to have seen it...not one network or major site picked up on it...which they would since it was a Kobe game winner!

He'd wanna get his TO's in control...averaging 5 a game since he got the starting role isn't great!

It wasn't me who first mentioned it here, and I've seen plenty discuss it on other forums. Not that big a deal really though, refs are never going to call Kobe for that especially not at the end of a game. If you watch the video, he takes two steps before he even starts to put it on the floor. It is not the regular two steps you see being taken while the ball is on it's way down. I think Kobe thought about shooting as soon as he caught it and kind of changed his mind, which caused the travel.

Yes, Lin needs to get his TO's under control. I think that will happen in time, provided he keeps playing well enough to get these big minutes. He doesn't have a low basketball IQ, his TOs seem to stem from being relatively inexperienced and over-excitedness at times. He should be OK in that department in time.

Can he get much more lovable.

    MVP innit.

Yes him clearly reaching out to Kobe is trolling

  • Registered Users Posts: 259 ✭✭Borisss

If Lin of the Greatest initiated the reach out then Kobe is the fail.

    LolKobe.

Watched 3 quarters last night, Lin did not play well and was way too sloppy with the ball... The Hornets did a good job on him and utulised trapping very well. Hopefully Anthony will be back on for Sunday's game, although he is a ball hog, I think the knicks need his scoring presence... Also guys the game tips off at 6 pm our time!

Any idea if an Irish channel will be showing it? ESPN only seem to show CBB and not NBA.

Dallas at New York now, first time I am going to sit down and watch a full game of Lins. Should be a good game anyway, Dirk is starting to hit form now and New York seem to have found some sort of identity, they have some serious players in the likes of Stoudemire, Carmelo, Chandler (Lin :p) and now JR Smith.

Dallas are still very good defensively even without Chandler and I am sure Kidd is not going to give Lin an easy day at the office.

Looks like Marion on Lin straight away, interesting.

  • Registered Users Posts: 259 ✭✭Borisss

    is this real?

Being a Knicks 'fan' isn't supposed to have this excitement.

    Lets goooooooo.

    JR from China with love.

The half-time talker on NBA life sounds like he's about to commit suicide. He's so monotone he makes Brian Cowen sound exciting.

Any streams? Can't justify the price of NBA TV. Also dying to watch Magic/Heat (though I probably shouldn't be, don't fancy Magic's chances...)

No, it's 8.30pm our time. After Dallas/NY. Made the same mistake myself!

Serious amount of calls going in favour of the Knicks!

You can't deny Lin's class for much longer after that though. Those constant 3's and assists at the end did it for them. And this was against the Mavs who are approaching their best against after the early season slouch. Great to watch.

  • Registered Users Posts: 259 ✭✭Borisss

One of the greatest NBA stories.

    Just not real.

They're gonna win a Playoff game!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,172 ✭✭✭✭kmart6

Constant 3's?! He had 3 in the game and 2 in the 4th...that's not constant! Yeah he did well with 6 assists in the 4th , but 7 TO's is too much, especially with 6 in the 2nd half!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,276 ✭✭✭Memnoch

They guy is carrying 80% of the possession for the team, playing 40 minutes night after night and is getting double teamed hard. They are relying on him to make the plays and create the opportunities, he's doing it and they are winning as a result. In that situation, there will be TOs, though I'm sure he'll improve on them as time goes on.

I guess it doesn't matter what it is, there will always be naysayers.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,172 ✭✭✭✭kmart6

    No, there will be realists!

He's the PG...it's his job to carry the possession so it doesn't make him any different to other PG's! If others had as many To's they would be getting crucified, but it's being over looked completely here so the story can keep getting hyped!

Yeah it's a great story, but it's not like he's some Rookie straight out of High School/College...he's been around the league for over a year!

If he is still performing like this on a months time then that'll be different, as of now it's only been two weeks!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,061 ✭✭✭leggo

I didn't mean constant 3's alone, I said constant 3's and assists. He was firing on all cylinders when it counted. Regardless of where he'll be in a month, regardless of his TO's, that's what he's done now in 8 of 9 games...often against quality opposition. All with little to no big game experience. Rejuvenating one of the NBA's biggest franchises during a lull in their history. In front of the toughest crowd in the league.

This isn't ignoring stats to make a better story, the above IS the story. If you choose to focus only on the negatives then you're missing the entire point. But, with stories like this, there will always be those who take the 'other' side no matter what. And you're perfectly entitled to do so, I suppose.

If it all goes to ****, that's another story for another day. It doesn't take away from what he's done, which is remarkable and unprecedented.

Very true. I do think he's fit though, it's not like Thibs to rush players back in fairness to him.
