Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Large Kildare involvement with the Defence Forces team who won Comórtas Páidí Ó Sé this weekend. Dermot Earley was part of the management team. Panel included Gary White, Podge Fogarty, Adam Tyrrell, Ryan Houlihan, Ray Cahill, Ryan Moore.

Under 21s will play Offaly in Leinster quarter final next Thursday 5th March in Portlaoise at 7:30

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,101 ✭✭✭klairondavis

That pretty much rules Niall Kelly and David Hyland out of the Cavan match two nights later especially if the Kildare u21s advance.

    Peter Kelly injured again?

Not convinced with our midfield options without Tommy Moolick.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,166 ✭✭✭✭paulie21

Heard Kelly pulled up in training with a hamstring during the week. Hopefully not too serious

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,088 ✭✭✭Nib

Kelly is a huge loss. He really has no luck at all.

Great to see Paul Cribbin back in the team. Not convinced with O'Brien at CB. I'd much rather see Eoin Doyle there with Murnaghan at wing back.

This is a huge game for this team. It defines our whole year IMO. Win, and we're back in contention for promotion. Lose, and we're going down.

    Kildare 0-5 Westmeath 0-8 (HT)

Lucky to be within three. Not a whole lot to get positive about. Hoping for some improvement after the break.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,101 ✭✭✭klairondavis

Abject first half performance. Slight improvement in the second half but nothing to be writing home about either. Hard to believe we beat Westmeath last year by 17 points because they were a lot better than 3 points superior to us today.

kildare heading for division 3 must be the shock of the league so far, i think themselfs and leix will drop down to division 3,

Missing a number of potential starters. It will be tough going.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,101 ✭✭✭klairondavis

    Kildare 1-8 Offaly 0-4 (HT)

Pretty good half for Kildare. Goal coming from Mark Sherry midway through the half. Niall Kelly the class act on show.

Offaly will have the breeze in the second half.

Have Kildare rested any of their U21s tonight ahead of the game vs Cavan at the weekend?

    It's the other way around.

Both Niall Kelly and David Hyland will be rested on Saturday. Ridiculous having this game tonight with the senior game less than 48 hours later.

In no other sport does an underage game take preference over a senior one. Baffling really.

No. Niall Kelly and David Hyland both playing.

2-8 to 0-8 now. Offaly kicked the first four points of the second half before Dec Flaherty goaled.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,101 ✭✭✭klairondavis

Offaly down to 14 men. Straight red.

    Kildare 3-12 Offaly 0-9

Kildare: Niall Kelly (0-5, 1f), Declan Flaherty (1-1), Neil Flynn (1-1, 1f), Mark Sherry (1-0), Ryan Moore (0-2), Cein McMonagle (0-1), Chris Fenner (0-1), Wayne Fitzpatrick (0-1).

A welcome performance with all the doom and gloom surrounding the seniors. Impressive scoreline in the end although we rode our luck at times.

Makes it fairer though because Cavan are doing the same. None of our U21s are being used in the League again this year.

Do ye think will ye go man to man 15 vs 15 Saturday evening? If ye do I'd expect that could play right into our hands.

14 men behind the ball has been par for the course so far this year.

The reason the u21 match was held on a Thursday was that it was a due to be a home game for Offaly (match was in Athy last year), but Gracefield was deemed unsuitable. Offaly nominated Portlaoise instead and it had to be moved from Wednesday due to the Laois v Dublin mmatch.

That tactic will work well for Kildare against Cavan. We struggle against teams playing a blanket too because the Cavan full forward line isn't good enough. Our half forward line meanwhile are busy in the backline!

I haven't check the bookies but would expect Kildare to be favourites.

A forward line without Kelly, Smith or Fogarty. Hard to see where the scores are going to come from. Good to see Flynn back starting.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,088 ✭✭✭Nib

Interesting team. Cannot fathom why Callaghan is been persisted with, his form has been on the wane for a long time now. Darroch Mulhall must feel very hard done by.

Those six forwards wouldn't strike fear into any team. There's a distinct lack of pace, particularly in the full forward line.

Hard game to call, two unpredictable teams. I wouldn't be surprised to see it end in a draw.

No idea. Might not have been a Kildare decision.

I have always believed the hurlers should be playing up in Clane for stand alone fixtures. They would draw a bigger crowd there.

    Two changes:

    Gary White for Hugh Lynch
    Tomas Connor for Podge Fogarty

    Tommy Moolick amongst the Subs

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,492 ✭✭✭roy rodgers

What a joke of a team and management. No leadership on the field or from the side lines.
Unfortunately we are stuck with Ryan till after the championship because the county board wouldn't have the ball's to send him back to Waterford.
This has to be one of the worst kildare teams in decade's.

Do us a favour Ryan and go home!!

My patience with the current state of affairs is gone **** sake no passion from the team..

    Sad day tbh...

From the glory of division 1 relegation to 2 and probably straight relegation to 3!!!! Disgraceful

    And Jason Ryan ffs

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,226 ✭✭✭✭DARK-KNIGHT

Final score for roscommon was a hurling scoreline... I can reluctantly take the bad beatings from Dublin as they truly are a class act but I can't watch the likes of today.

    Sorry for the rant...

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,101 ✭✭✭klairondavis

It must be one of the first times in over 130 years that the Kildare hurlers are performing at a higher level than our footballers. I don't know whether that says more about the strides our hurlers have made or how bad our footballers have gotten.

Hopefully the u21 team can put a bit of pride back into Kildare football on Wednesday night.

    Leinster MFL semi final:

    Kildare 1-16 Carlow 0-7

Kildare will play the Áth Cliath team in the final on Saturday having beaten the Dublin team during the group stage.

  • Registered Users Posts: 95 ✭✭Royce McCutcheon

Division 1 Semi-Finalists, a two point loss to Tyrone that could have went either way and an U21 Title doesnt look too bad now.. is there any point in Ryan staying on until were knocked out of the championship? Surely its in the players minds too that they are playing for a man who wont be with us in 5 months time?

Ryan has to know he is ****ed at this stage. Hopefully he bows out gracefully.

What way is Glenn Ryan now contract wise?

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,101 ✭✭✭klairondavis

Glenn would not be very popular among a lot of the current footballers. He was approached post McGeeney but John McMahon went with Ryan instead to appease the players.

We haven't the finance to bring in an expensive managerial set up. County panel expenditure is a fraction of what it was four or five years ago.

The next managerial set up will have to work within the same constraints (our Croke Park loan of €100,000 per annum won't be paid off until 2018) so you can forget about the likes of Cian O'Neill, Jack O'Connor and also McStay. If the Mayo county board were baulked by the cost of his plans then he has no hope with cash strapped Kildare.

If Murphy was interested then I would like to see him given a chance. He would be popular with players and supporters alike, he would be very familiar with our underage structures and personnel, and the Kildare minor teams he managed were always competitive.
