Croom Secondary School (over 1000 students) being evacuated as the wind has destroyed a number of portacabins that were being used as classrooms. School expected to be closed until next week at least.

This is likely to be replicated in many schools with portacabins.

Is this going to be bad in Blessington and West Dublin, and if so about what time. Just thinking of collecting the young lad from school now to be safe or am I being over cautious. We have a 45min journey along the N81, usually about 3pm.

Biggest Met Eireann up to 11 am reports is 73 kts at Roches Point in the 9 am reports.

Ah inside info - Also now on airport twitter feed -

The most incredible wind I've ever witness at low levels. The whole house is shaking bins flying everywhere, alarms going off. Has the adrenaline going, that's for sure. Jaysus!

Off topic: Typical RTE but you can be sure it will be headline news later when it hits Dublin. I don't why anybody outside of that county should be paying a licence fee to be honest.

On topic: Flying plastic construction fences around the office now in Plassey :D

Seems to be moving a little faster than the short range HIRLAM charts suggest. 30-60 minutes faster.

It is now extremely windy in Carrick-on-Suir. The roof just blew off the beer garden in the pub around the corner from where I work.

I'm in Dublin but contacted my parents in Cork a few times now this morning.

Right now, they said they have never seen anything like it. My mother, in particular, has said its frightening stuff.

Can only imagine. Wish I was there with them now though, as mad as that may sound.

Can't believe that tree fell down in Brookfield.

It is just unbelievable Knex , i have seen wind but this is mental !
Looking at the trees near me swaying like never before !

Tried to open the car door earlier ....bang nearly took my leg off !
