The website is awful looking. The UK site seems much more polished, don't know why they didn't just copy that.

What 4G bands does iD use? It's not the exact same as 3 isn't it not?

    Thanks.

Haven't used the English site, but the Irish site is great compared to any other network here.

Not entirely sure but think the whole network is using 3 for everything.

3 use frequency 1800mhz (band 3) as well as 800mhz

iD only use 800mhz (band 20)

Thats not true. iD use exactly same 4G as Three.

  • Registered Users Posts: 18,134 ✭✭✭✭JCX BXC

Im unsure of the case. The deal was that three would have a few virtual operators on their network, and they would have to be given the option to buy some 4g spectrum. I don't thing ID opted to buy any, therefore the signal should be the exact same on both networks.

I'm just going on what the iD website states. On the phone now but I'll put the link up later if you want.

    Cheers for the responses.

The reason I'm wondering is I bought an LG G3 recently but rather foolishly got the American D850 model instead of the European D855 model.

According to the website below it will work fine on 3 (and other networks), iD however, is not listed and when I turn data on I only get Edge so I'm curious, and really hoping it's just iD as I'm only trialling them at the minute anyway, I'm usually on 3 PAYG.

    Website used:

    Thanks.

Depends on location as well. Would you be in a 4G area?

Got two free cinema tickets from iD today. Was a bit of a pain to fill out the form and limited cinemas but still a good little thing to get. That's me seeing Star Wars another twice when the tickets arrive!

Yeah I am, I can get 4G from all networks where I live, when I was on Three I once got over 50Mb download, iD is much slower but I still got 4G on my old phone at least.

    Could you not before?

No, they had promised this, but before now, you had to call customer care.

Now, if only they could sort out the basic stuff like:

Being able to text Irish 5xxxx shortcodes
Being able to divert to numbers other than iD voicemail...

...then I'd stay, and even recommend them to friends and family.

If the little r appears above the signal bars it means your out of coverage and your on roaming.
Should the phone automatically go back to h g or 4g when you get signal again?or is it a setting you have to change?
If mine goes to r its staying there it doesn't go back.

It might be a function/flaw/bug in your phone, rather than the network. On my (iOS) phone, there is no sign to say whether you're roaming or not, it just switches between E (EDGE, rarely seen), 3G (common enough) and LTE (AKA 4G, most common, as I live and work near Dublin city centre). However, it changes back and forth fairly well, not getting stuck anywhere.

It's means you are roaming yes but it may mean you're just on the old 02 part of the network. They haven't managed to merge these together yet so if your in an area where the signal on am ex-o2 mast is stronger than the nearest 3 mast it'll connect you to the ex-02 mast and tell you you are roaming. May not be anything wrong with your phone. You may just have better signal from the ex-02 mast.

Ok but shouldn't it change from Mast to mast. Instead of staying on roaming?am i missing something?
    Thanks for the replies btw.

It should but this is a common issue with the Three network which iD uses for service. When they fully combine the old O2 masts into the current Three network it should stop but until then this should be pretty much normal. You can always manually select the network you want on your phone if you don't find the service good on the roaming (O2) network.

My.phone has a tendency to stick on EGPRS/Roaming when it reaches one of those cells (typically on Chapelizod bypass). But I have had one of the first sim cards since te network launch and the has been reports that these were dodge and that they wouldn't switch back to HSDPA/LTE once you've moved on.

This was the case. It was annoying but I just never got around to heading into Carphone to get a replacement sim until today and so far it's been grand jumping back and forth.

So if the OP has an older ID sim I'd get it replaced and that should fix the issues.

    Anyone aware of this problem?
I signed up for iD last Thursday and since then my girlfriend (on Vodafone) can't call me (call drops immediately with 'invalid number'). I went to the shop on Saturday and the lady there tried calling me from a Vodafone phone, with the same result. She calls iD tech support and was told iD and Vodafone engineers are working together to resolve a glitch. 'Should be sorted by next day'.
Monday a.m. no news. Vodafone Tech (in India) are not aware of any problem (of course, being in India, they can't verify the problem as it would only apply to the Irish Vodafone network). iD customer care are still awaiting a progress report as I write.

The practical problem is: Vodafone users think they have a bad number, and iD users don't know anyone is trying to call them.

Vodafone customers had a similar issue calling Meteor Customers at the start of December also, don't think this is down to iDMobile in this case.

    hi
im with vodafone, coming to the end of a 24 month contract.
ID offering iphone 6, 100 mins, 100txt 20 GB data, for €46 euro, no upfront price on phone either. seems really good value.
how are people finding the service though? quick look through the thread, seems to be very hit and miss?

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,730 ✭✭✭Type 17

How long is the iD contract? - I'm on a monthly contract with my own iPhone (not locked to any network) - I'm happy to stick with them for now, so long as they fix the issues that I mentioned above (post #678) soon enough, but I don't know if I'd want to commit to them for 24 or even 12 months...

I'm not having any coverage issues, but I was previously with Three (same network infrastructure), so I knew it would be identical on iD. I live, work and socialise in the Dublin 2,4,6,14 & 16 areas, but your experience may vary...

    Hi Type 17,
i was looking at the 24 month contract.
where i live, rural galway. 3g with 3 is available, and i work in loughrea, so i think i could be ok on coverage, i dont really use the phone for calls much, 100 minutes would cover that handy, and viber / whats app would cover the text messages too. ..

To know exactly where you stand you could always go pay as you go for a month and then switch to bill if it works out.
