Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I'm on 40 posts per page on boards, and the top post on this page is from 18-11-2008. That's a bit depressing really!

I'm going to try and revive this thread for a bit and see what happens.
Firstly, its been renamed to cover DSiWare and WiiWare games too.

    WiiWare:
Pearl Harbor Trilogy - 1941: Red Sun Rising
Kung Fu Funk: Everybody is Kung Fu Fighting!

    Virtual Console
    Nothing this week.

    DSiWare
    5 in 1 Solitaire
    Soul of Darkness
    3d Space Tank
    4 Travellers - Play French

I'm still waiting for Cave Story to appear on WiiWare, but I did grab Soul of Darkness this morning for the DSi (500 points). Its a Castlevania clone (and so close in graphics, style, enemies, puzzles and everthing else that it probably made Konami's lawyers sit up and say WTF?). Its a very good game, and it has been well received too. For a fiver, you can't go wrong.

Not very good this week.... I don't know why they aren't churning out 3 or 4 VC releases every week on the Wii. The last C64 release was February 2009?!

    DsiWare
    Pop Island - Paperfield
World Poker Tour: Texas Hold 'Em
    Crazy Pinball

    WiiWare
    Girlfriends Forever: Magic Skate
Arcade Sports: Air Hockey, Bowling, Pool, Snooker

    Virtual Console
    Aero The Acrobat (SNES)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 55,534 ✭✭✭✭Mr E

    Another dud week I'm afraid.

    WiiWare
    Dive: The Medes Islands Secret
    Family Pirate Party

    Virtual Console
    Nothing

    DSiWare
    Pop Island Paperfield.

Virtual Console has just seemed to die which is a pity. Wish they would keep putting out import games and it's not like they have gotten through all the titles.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 55,534 ✭✭✭✭Mr E

They haven't even scratched the surface of available titles.
I'd love to see more C64 games, but the last update was February 2009 (after releasing just 19 games).

I imagine that there just is not the appetite for C64 games, at that price

    Animal Puzzle Adventure

Picked up Pearl Harbor Trilogy - 1941: Red Sun Rising over the weekend after a bottle of wine and am quite taken aback with how good it is for a downloadable title! It's tough, very tough in fact and it took me a good hour to get past the first level but it's the type of game you can go back to and have a challenge each time (there's no gimmick to winning).

700 points well spent and while there's no multiplayer or online, I'm hoping they'll sort that out for one of the other two in the trilogy....fingers crossed :)

I'm totally lost. Are these games you can download online? I'm in a country in which I cannot buy Wii games and have a party tonight! Would love some new games.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 55,534 ✭✭✭✭Mr E

You download them through the Wii shop channel (one of the main icons on the Wii menu). You will need wireless access to download them, and they cost between €5 and €15 depending on the game.

What a waste, wiiware has been left to die, still no date on an EU release for Cave Story nor any region for Super Meat Boy.

Nintendo have promised us so much but failed to deliver. MS and Sony have great download services but wiiware is pathetic.

Such a shame about Wiiware, its now wall to wall shovelware, the only release on my radar is La Mulana and going by what happened with Caves there is no way of knowing if we'll even get that over here. Even Team Meat have all but ditched WiiWare and are singing the praises of developing for Xbox.

At this stage even Nintendo must be aware of the missed opportunity, PSN and XBLA have plenty of dodgey titles too but enough interesting and progressive titles to balance them out, the same is far and few and between on WiiWare.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 55,534 ✭✭✭✭Mr E

I read a good review of Aura Aura climber on Eurogamer this morning (8/10) - looks like a good pick up and play game.

    Out this week:

    Fenimore Fillmore The Westerner

    VC:
    Rival Turf (SNES)

    DSiWare:

I see here that WiiWare in the US has got an updated version of Cave Story that fixes multiple bugs, it looks like it was a bit of a mess upon release which might explain why we never got it. Hopefully now that its fixed and its coming to DSiware we'll see it here too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 55,534 ✭✭✭✭Mr E

Hopefully soon, valley.... no sign yet though.

I downloaded this over the weekend after a few rums :)
Now, I'm all into the whole astronomy thing and while I don't have a telescope anymore, this software is pretty cool for anyone with an interest.
You can put your co-ordinates in and it'll show you the starfield from that perspective. Its UI is pretty simple and there is a vast amount of info on constellations, planets etc. It's pretty easy to actually find something in the night sky using this.

Good piece of software but only if you're into astronomy.

Did it again; this weeks drunken purchase was Zombie Panic in Wonderland, a wiiware game of the same kin as the old Cabal games.
You shoot zombies before they "hug" you to death and it's a lot of fun.
You can move left or right with nunchuk and aim/shoot with wiimote.

Lots of laughs in this one and deffo one of the better ones on wii ware.

I noticed the news update stating that demo functionality for wiiware games would be introduced as of the 5th of November, and Zombie Panic in Wonderland will be the first game I try out using this. It sounds right up my alley :)

Edited to add: Never mind, turns out I misread the news about the demos. I've now tried out Zombie Panic & Thruspace, and will be buying them both.

There are cartridge versions of both (with double the levels). The download versions have 50, retail versions have 100.

The retail version was released a few weeks ago apparently.....

It's at least not as bad as the DSIware 'games' that turn your DSI screen into a flashlight or the one that turns it into a strobe.
