Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I'm gonna go Friday... just in case a few miss the cut :D
Will stay over friday night, somewhere... back seat of the car if I have to !... Well I'll have to won't I with all the drinking I'll be doing in the clubhouse after the golf
Will get an early start then for the Saturday, but have kiddie stuff to do Sunday morning, so I'll have to go home Sat night and make my way back up Sunday afternoon for the Finale.

Really really really looking forward to it now, I just hope we get the same weather that we had last year down in Cork.

    Whacky Trousers anyone :D

guys not sure if its posted (didn't see it anyway)

link below is to Translink's site who will be doing shuttle buses etc on the day from Newcastle and other info for people coming from Newry/Belfast etc - in case some of you are staying up here and are not aware of public transport routes etc

    http://www.translink.co.uk/Special-Offers/irish-open/

For the last few irish opens the easiest transport has been to drive and park in free carpark at the course but this year will probably be different considering the lack of space around the course and the terrible roads around Newcastle. It's really in the middle of nowhere. I can just envisage hours of traffic jams the whole way to newry each evening. Seems that the most sensible option for anyone coming from the south is the park and ride in Newry.

Yeah this isnot strictly true, its a long way to newry from newcastle so hard to envisage traffic jams that long.

You can swing off to castlewellan and come in that way instead of turning off for newcastle at hilltown.

Also just as easy keep going down the A1 and take a turn off for ballynahinch and come up through downpatrick then jump on the shuttle bus from there as there is a reasonably large bus station.

Nuclear option is to head for belfast and get the shuttle bus.

Loads of options apart from driving straight at newcastle.

Reviewing the Translink serice for the Open it looks like the bus service from Newry to Newcastle is not operating on the Sunday. Am I reading that incorrectly are is that a serious "balls-up"?

foook! looking at the timetable section, No. it says that there is no bus on Sunday which is mad.

I will tweet them, as there are buses on the Sunday from Belfast and Armagh as well as Portadown. Where are you coming from?

Nice one dwayned, cant believe they would miss an opportunity like that.

Maybe we should have hired a coach ourselves and advertised a Sunday service from Newry :-)

lol yeah they got back again after that and explained that because the service has just been announced they wan to make sure its not an error on their part

..been said before and no doubt again, Irish Open should be on links, players can go anywhere in Europe to play parkland courses, the Open in RCD is attracting the players this year (in fairness hard to ignore Rory's input) and Ireland should be offering its USP to the world golf market, I doubt visitors from overseas (with respect) will take a golf trip to Ireland to play Lough Erne..
    Bad move IMHO

Depends on how many make the cut. The last tee time will be set by TV and work backwards from there.

Just bought the season ticket for 77GBP. Don't know which days suit me so this seemed the best option.

Plus Ardee is only just over an hour away so should be able to make two days comfortably enough :)

Might try and make the pro-am as don't really enjoy it when it's totally packed. Here's hoping for some good weather, although not too good as I'd rather be playing somewhere my self then :pac:

I'm planning to do a day trip from Galway on the Friday. Any ideas of how mental the traffic will be? I'm going to drive to the Northfield park and ride which is south of Castlewellan. I've driven Galway-Newry before in about 3 hours, going at a very leisurely pace. Should I budget around 4 to get parked and to the course?

Yes about 30-35 mins should take you from Newry to Newcastle but traffic could bottleneck in Castlewellan so give yourself an extra hour

Anyone know the situation regarding photography and phones. I'd like to take some photos but don't want to lug around my camera all day so I'd like to use my phone (for photos only), is this permissible?

That's a bit strange that he confirmed to play in both events and then just pulls out for no reason. And then he decides to play the Crown Plaza event this week instead of the BMW.

I'd say Rors will be ****ed for this event, he has a lot with 5 weeks in a row along with mid-week commitments, he looked wrecked at the post round interview on Sunday evening...I hope not though

Ah here. Golf 4 days a week for 5 weeks while being treated like royalty with a few commitments on the side. And that's before a few million thrown in for his efforts. I'll save my sympathy for the lads who golf 2-3 times a week with a 5 day job! :D

There were only a few pre-paid car parking spots at or near the course. There's a free park a ride service from two locations just outside of Newcastle. No need to book them (I hope, because I haven't!).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,472 ✭✭✭stockdam

There are usually car parking spaces in fields along the road only a couple of minutes from the course (not close to the first tee or clubhouse)

Reed tweeted an RIP message to what appears to be a close relative a few hours ago which explains his absence from Europe. I'm guessing that he probably won't tee it up at the Colonial but if he does that's his business - it's understandable that he didn't want to be on the other side of the world while someone close to him was dying.

Was thinking it could be something like that.

We sometimes forget they are real people too.

Sure we don't know 1/2 the stuff that has gone on with Rory.

actually isn't it 5 when you include the Pro am?????

My understanding is that they play the Pro Am on Wednesday - the competition then starting on Thursday.

Or is the Pro Am optional????

I know Padraig normally seems to do it based on his own comments re his preview and reviews of his events.

But I accept it MAY be optional

The world number 15 had earlier told the Golf Channel in a text message: "We have a family member who has been battling cancer and is now in a hospice and they say only has a few days, if that, left. So we don't feel comfortable leaving the country at this time, and wanted to be able to go down and see him before he passes to say our goodbyes.
"We feel like we need to be close to home and family at this time. We plan on going to Europe and play(ing) overseas this year, just we needed to be within reach this week. And we hope that everyone would respect our privacy during this tough time."

Well that's fair enough, didn't see that much detail printed anywhere. Still seems strange he'd enter the Crowne Plaza.
