Yeah kinda like the flu, remember back in the day 3-4 years ago when we used to just go out and socialise over christmas and spread the flu around with no care in the world even though us doing so was infecting old people and over burdening our under managed health system.

Lets never go back to that...Pass and jabs for everything here on out.

And don't try to argue against it.

Too early to panic about the "nu" variant. Need more data.

Ah I am sure you will do enough panicking for most of us.

    It's just the Nu, bro

That new variant is now confirmed in Europe. An unvaccinated person who travelled in from Africa brought it in....

Right well everyone who argued vaccines should sent to Africa instead of being hoarded by Western countries was shouted down.

I hear it was someone who wears shoes!

If they are concerned about a new variant, then the vaccinated can still carry it no?

    If not, why the concern?

If the vaccine reduces covid from spreading, then I'm getting my kids vaccinated. My Dad is very ill, and if by having them vaccinated that means they can spend more time with their grandad, without vastly increasing his risk of catching covid, then that's what I'm going to do.

I'm not sure I'd get them top ups every six months, but who knows where we'll be this time next year. We may have a working treatment for covid. So I'll cross that bridge when I come to it.

As for masks in primary schools, I'm not too fussed by it. My nine year old will be fine - she doesn't like masks (who does?) but she'll put up with it between 9-2.30.

However, regarding the "no playdates, no birthday parties" they can feck off. Seriously. We're having a friend sleep over tonight for the Toy Show and my 7 year old is having five friends over for a birthday party on Sunday (all from the same class, though not pod). We'll continue having playdates - they're all in the same class anyway - and my 9 year old will be having a birthday party in January, after having no-one even able to call over last year.

The vaccines need to be sent to the poorer countries and the vulnerable and adults should be vaccinated there before anything else and he we are here looking to jab kids over 5 where covid has little to no effect on them. Even worse are the folks looking to have the kids jabbed.

Ah, now you're onto "don't vaccinate here, vaccinate there". The fact that it's vaccine hesitation rather than supply causing most of the slow worldwide rollout is lost on a lot of people.

Where will the next tangent bring us?!

"...a turn off to modern woke liberals..." And so it should be. Religion should have no part in politics. I'm no a fan of Conservative or right wing parties. It's a no from me.

while I share you're unease about government regulation on covid i don'tagree

thankfully the constitution ensures the childs right to a free primary school education. would they risk a constitutional challenge? unlikely. article 42 is covers many angles hard to weasel out of - imo . it could be a legal nightmare

I know the EU ruled on the czech kids but our constitution matters too.

also the under12 take up may not be as high as other groups in society , people will put up with much but get angry over their kids very easily.

I don't really understand your comment but you do you!

Surely the big one is it more deadly. Cos if it's more transmissible and the symptoms are basically a cold, no one cares.

When the threat passes, restrictions will ease. Maybe you think it's permanent?

aren't we all unvaccinated against "Nu" - I thought that was the point?

It could be half as deadly but transmit to three time the amount of people which would mean more serious illness/death albeit lower percentage wise of people with covid.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 203 ✭✭BuildTheWall

    Meet the "Nu" boss.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 307 ✭✭watchingfromafar

It would then burn out quicker and become endemic faster since it would use all of the new supplies up leaving everyone with a level of immunity.

However I'd shield the vulnerable and let a less deadly one rip through the population who won't be at risk.

    Focused protection

Maybe it was someone who didnt want the vaccine

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 620 ✭✭✭aidoh

On the logic of boosters being made available to everybody over 16:

You have to wait a certain amount of time since your last dose to be safely eligible for a booster.

But if you've subsequently caught covid post-vaccination it's not safe to take the booster and you have to wait longer.

Since the vaccines supposedly lessen the symptoms of covid significantly, is it not likely that thousands of people will have gotten vaccinated, then infected (unknowingly), then might suffer vaccine injury from a booster shot being administered too soon after infection?

I'm sure the geniuses in NIAC have carefully considered this but ffs the SAFEANDEFFECTIVE(tm) nature of the new technology is seriously about to be put to the test, isn't it?

Im jabbed before anyone calls me an antivaxxer.

As much as I dislike him he was the only politician to openly question Holohan. A bit more of that now would be good.

Africa is a big place and had very low instances of COVID in most countries, we needed them in the west to get our economies back running, which then allows us to contribute more to the African cause

The reason they don't recommend vaccine if you have had infection in last six months is due to no benefit as already have antibodies rather than a safety issue.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 620 ✭✭✭aidoh

Thanks for clearing that up, I had read it was a safety concern.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,040 ✭✭✭Penfailed

No idea. Depends on any number of factors. I'd like to think it'll be sometime in the first or second quarter of next year.

    I’m panicked.

I’m panicked about the controls and restrictions which it will be used to justify. The EU bringing in a 9 month expiry for the covid cert - does anyone think that they’re doing that for a once off booster. This is it now, next year there’ll be some new vaccines for variants which will be loaded onto the covid cert as well. Probably masks everywhere too.
