Uk numbers are patients in mechanical ventilation. Ever since Johnson was admitted to icu but they didn’t want to admit he was in icu this is how they have counted the numbers.

I get the feeling this has and will drag on until people forget what normal ever was. If you experience something long enough, you subconsciously adjust to it as "The New Normal". Which, of course, is the name they've given this new abnormal.

We either go back to *actual* normal by early next year, or that way of life and freedom is gone forever. Two years and I think it's a done deal. Demoralize people long enough and most will eventually give in.

All this talk of ordering from the bar reminds me of the odeon in Harcourt. With people 3 deep at the 50 ft long bar, your mates would have to send a rescue party for you after about 15 mins to get the round of pints back in one piece.

Too old for that **** now, but it would be nice to get back to that "normality."

Not until all restrictions, coercive and discriminatory measures are dropped.

"Happy" with temporary give&takes and nonsensical measures from overreaching government is slave mentality. The government serve us, not the other way around.

Everybody should now be firmly focused on this whole thing ending and a date at which you'll draw a line in the sand. It's been 18 months now. Vaccination rate is 90%+. Enough.

I thought the consequences of your choice were directly related to the possible magnitude of damage those choices may cause.

Driving without a valid licence can result in up to a 1,000 euro fine, if the licence expired less than 12 months before the offence took place, 2,000 euro if outside that time. Driving without insurance can result in up to a 5,000 euro fine, 5 penalty points and at the discretion of the court a prison sentence not exceeding 6 months.

The restrictions are just about arse-covering, nothing to do with preventing spread or making any sort of sense.

Basically balancing the Joe Duffy audience or the likes of that Michael O'Regan lad who are constantly terrified of the virus and would lose their reason at a full opening up vs opening up industries which have been out of commission for almost 2 years.

They want to be able to say that there is still restrictions and to be able to blame people for flaunting them which they are and will, and also to be able to say they are giving closed industries a chance to open up - As per usual spineless stuff.

I always thought it was just mainstream media who put out that sort of narrative (who are obviously just bought off propaganda). As for the people, complying the last 18 months has lead us to discriminatory vaccine passports, talk of more boosters, and the overhanging threat of "further lockdowns". So what's the way out?

To paraphrase Dan Andrews (Victorian Premier) in Australia recently:

"This will continue well into 2022. Anyone on the fence, you're not going to wait us out. It won't be about whether you've had your double jab, the question next year will be 'have you had your boosters'?"

We don't want to even consider going down this type of authoritarian path. Hence I'm saying people need to be focused on ending it all as soon as possible, not celebrating being allowed to dance without a mask.

That's probably the most deliberately misunderstood "quote" of all time.

Used in its proper context - and when logically applied to Covid - it would defend the ability of the Government to impose restrictions for collective safety - the exact thing that those who tend to use the quote tend to be against.

An ability that is sadly very likely to be needed again before too long.

I'm out, but had a quick scan through that. Basically a random individual (Benjamin Wittes) claiming the quote means the exact opposite of what nearly anyone would interpret it as. Ok...

Regardless, the point stands. I hope you feel "safe" with the 18 month restrictions for a virus so deadly that most need to get tested to even know they have.
