Some lads obviously spent lockdown reading too many dystopian science fiction novels.

Even with the media trying their hardest I don't think the fear is their anymore.

People have the attitude we're doubled jabbed and there's only so long we can carry on like this.

There's only a few now that are being overdramatic about it now and they can be calling everywhere and touching people but God forbid you go near them in the shop.

How do you know what the media is like in every country in the world? You don't. You're making it up.

I see nphet member Mary Favier (sp) doing the rounds this morning with her concern. Whatever about government ministers, the ones who are supposed to make the decisions, running to the media. Certain nphet members are too fond of pushing their personal opinions on to the rest of us and the media too fond of spreading it.

Their role is to advise government, not give opinions to the media, end of.

The media invited her to give her opinion.

    I don't see what's wrong with that.

Boards provide a platform for various people to give their opinions. Should it be censored?

But it's always the pessimistic opinion they look for. They regularly report what Sam McConkey says, for example. He was talking about masks being mandatory for years the other day. Funnily enough, I think he's probably right about that, even though I wish he wasn't. Donnelly is now talking about sector-specific mask wearing: https://m.independent.ie/irish-news/health/donnelly-hints-face-masks-may-remain-as-part-of-sector-specific-measures-40939586.html

Did I read that right in that article...that nightclubs might need people to wear masks?!? Nightclubs ffs. 😂 They're just making it up as they go along.

Boards contributer opinions are not being run on every national and local radio station this morning as a stick to beat the population into submission.

    There is one difference.

Because as I said yesterday its driving a narrative, and sowing seeds of doubt, its been happening throughout the pandemic. As gortana says where are the positive voices.

And I still maintain it undermines the governments position when nphet members go on solo runs in the lead up to announcements.

You see what you want to see.

Plenty of positive opinions in the media.

This sums it up. Depressing but yeah, covid doesn’t give 1 damn about plans

This 300k un vacinated being primarily blamed for increasing case numbers and hospitalisations seems a bit of a stretch.

Someone said yesterday its highly unlikely those in this cohort that don't have a medical reason not to get vacinated are highly unlikely to ever get tested so I'd suspect they are not featuring much in testing numbers.

If we look at the 300k, surely a fair portion can't actually get vacinated for medical reasons, I would then have to assume this cohort extremely cautious. I'm not entirely sure if there is definitive data on how many citizens can not get vaccinated and it would seem to me to be very unfair to be throwing out this speculative 300k figure and essentially blame everyone un vacinated for the current situation. I believe the actual number of people and not for medical reasons un vacinated is far less than 300k, at a guess I'd believe based on Ireland population at least 100k can't get vaccinated (again just a guess)

I still maintain the majority of new case numbers are infact fully vacinated and I again say, we are at a crossroads were vacinne protection is reducing, especially for the most vulnerable, most of whom were the first to get Vacinnes almost 9 months ago. Furthermore if we look at those who got a dose with an estimated 6 month protection, are nearing or are past the 6 months by now.

Back to this 30% of hospitalised being fully vaccinated, it's mentioned almost as an aside, 30% is not an insignificant number.

Again, I'm not advocating delaying fully re opening and certainly not further restrictions, I'm saying quite simply there's a perplexing issue at play here given our high Vacination numbers, I do not subscribe to any blame game and simply pointing out Public Health officials seem to very quick to apportion blame thats just not stacking up in IMO. I'm leaning towards vacinne protection on all those vacinated reducing and dare I say at a faster rate than was projected, again all IMO.

Is maith an scáthán súil charad.

As I've said before. If anyone feels they're being beaten into submission by the media, then there is a simple solution. Ignore the media.

    It's what I do.

Picture this, it's January. The most vulnerable have been getting their boosters over the last month. They'll be 5 months in (Most people are saying boosters every 6 months). Everybody has been in everybodies house over Christmas. Case numbers into the 5 figures per day. Health systems completely overwhelmed (like they are every winter).

It will happen and it will be in January.

Just on this, I listened to morning Ireland on the commute in this morning to see what way things would be spun. So far they've had Christina Finn the journals political correspondent on along with a professor in immunology from one of the Dublin universities ( I didn't catch which one or her full name - I'll listen back later to get the details).

Finn said Government sources have told NPHET they want all the data, the full breakdown, vaccinated, unvaccinated, the full deep dive on hospitals. She also said senior government sources are well aware that there is absolutely no apatite to delay and stress absolutely nothing has been discussed or decided yet.

The professor went through the impact of vaccines and how cases don't translate into hospital cases like they did before, she also made the point that we're well below NPHETs projections even with an increase in cases. She said she's not surprised there's been an increase, social activity levels are basically back to what they were, she's not sure if opening up next week would cause any huge increase in socialisation than what's already seen currently. When asked the straight question would you open up, she said yes she would due to the previous point, however she would suggest keeping the vaccine cert in order to open the sectors.

I expected doom and gloom from morning Ireland based on the previous track record but that didn't come through to me this morning.

As I said on threads yesterday I think the middle ground will be open with vaccine certs still in play.

Edit: The professor was Christine Loscher from DCU

If Boards.ie advice was considered de facto policy by a cowardly Taoiseach then I would have concerns about that as well.

I think the 30% is for icu. The other day they were reporting 60% hospitalised.

Rarely, if ever, in the Irish media. But the US media is just as bad. It's not just Ireland.

Thankfully that not the case with NPHET either.

But why were with Denmark, with fewer people vaccinated at the time, able to drop all restrictions? The exact same vaccine(s) were used in Denmark.

I want to see if this all goes to hell, will those posters that screamed everything will be back to normal on the 22nd come back and say they were wrong?

    Somehow, I doubt that.
