I've heard of a few people that have got it in the last couple of weeks and all of these are double-jabbed.

Know of one or two who were surprised to be positive. They should not be severe cases nor hospitalisations, which is why we did all of this.

Any time these leaks have come out in the past it usually means only one thing. Preparing the way for the reintroduction of restrictions or in this case the continuation of restrictions. I'd expect a delay until mid November or something similar and then with Christmas on the horizon and after last year they will say well we can't reopen fully for Christmas. Best to leave it until mid January, etc.

Nothing wrong with wanting to meet friends and family for drinks / meals / cinema in a normal fashion after everybody has sacrifced so much over the last 18 months. Nothings going to change between now and next march. so why keep putting it off.

It's actually sad that people wanting their freedoms, their rights, is constantly boiled down to people simply wanting pints.

I had a great social summer this year, especially on holidays, mainly in pubs. It wasn't the drink that made it great, it was the people, but points like that will always been ignored by zealots.

“The man who lies to himself can be more easily offended than anyone else. You know it is sometimes very pleasant to take offense, isn't it? A man may know that nobody has insulted him, but that he has invented the insult for himself, has lied and exaggerated to make it picturesque, has caught at a word and made a mountain out of a molehill--he knows that himself, yet he will be the first to take offense, and will revel in his resentment till he feels great pleasure in it.”- ― Fyodor Dostoevsky, The Brothers Karamazov

Maybe Tomas Ryan will have another opportunity to float his idea of delaying Christmas until the end of February, celebrate Easter in June etc.

Its abundantly clear now that our current vaccines are nowhere near good enough to allow full normality to resume. Of course it’s easier to blame and demonise the tiny proportion of unvaccinated adults which is just a waste of time at this stage. We are well past the point of diminishing returns with respect to what current vaccines can offer.

Surely there are other vaccines nearing approval at this stage?

issue is some people are just careless, and those are the ones id be wary about. ive no problem going for pints/food if its outside where there is lots of space etc.. but my concern is still with offices ..and many people 'forgetting' to put their mask over their nose..etc...while were heading into the winter.

    Masks at this stage ffs.

Denmark is totally back to normal and so are many other places with less people vaccinated.

They were never giving that one up. Loads of EU countries are only bringing it in now, they were hardly going to give it up when they are trying to portray the whole "pandemic of the unvaccinated" missinformation.

It’s one of the easier restrictions to keep in place. Largely pointless given numbers vaccinated. I also expect that “work remotely if you can” will be reintroduced in November for the same reason.

These headlines and leaks are doing some damage to people's mental health esp those who's jobs may be impacted

I always knew the big gap between the reopening dates could be a bit dangerous in terms of last minute changes

Yet across their land border in Germany, they have a 3G rule where you need to be vaccinated, recovered or negative test to access indoor dining and other places. Sometimes its just vaccinated or recovered. You also need N95/FFP2 masks on public transport and in shops.

Both countries can't be correct, can they ?

It doesn't matter to us what either Denmark or Germany do, its apples and oranges. Both their health services are probably much less sh1t than ours I'd guess.

Our opening will go ahead as planned on 22nd and rightly so IMO.

The fear and paranoia in this thread is something to behold. Simon Coveney and Catherine Martin have just come out and categorically stated we are on track for 22nd. No doubt the media will do their best to hammer home the doubt, the uncertainty but, bar a throwaway remark from Leo and some "concern" (when isn't there) from NPHET, there is little reason to believe the 22nd won't go ahead.

I'd say we're going straight back into full lockdown.

Better safe than sorry coming into the winter.

Already dusting off my zoom app in preparation.

Come on. Many of the planned re-openings in the past were decided against literally a day or two before hand. A person would of had to have shut their eyes and ears for the past 2 years to not be at least a bit skeptical, considering the precedent that they've set. I'd hazard a guess that if they do change their plans, you'll ignore being wrong, and come in here justifying the decision as many before you have.

    Fk this

For anyone downplaying this, remember, if they don't lift all restrictions on the 22nd, they will not lift them for at least another 4 months (probably longer).

There will be multiple thousand cases per day over Christmas, it's happening. If we don't declassifying Covid now, this nonsense is on for another year/years. It has to end now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,037 ✭✭✭Russman

Yeah but it was a much faster moving situation last year and earlier this one. Vaccination has made it much more manageable and slow moving. I think it will go ahead and I think it should go ahead, the rest is just media whipping up a frenzy, but I also agree with the idea that as circumstances change, plans can also change. No government should be held to a prediction made months earlier.

Yip they are starting to backtrack on easing restrictions they are putting out the feelers now that something may happen and when it does we won't be surprised.

Now all this is because of our third world health system that.cant deal with anything

Which of the "many" planned reopenings were decided against literally a day or two beforehand?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,479 ✭✭✭landofthetree

This is why summer was the time to do it.

    Uk 7011 in hospital.

Divide by 13 gives you 539. Ireland has 402.

    UK 780 in ICU.

Divide by 13 gives you 60. Ireland has 73.

All those extra restrictions in Ireland for sweet **** all gains.

Jesus, we are going through all of this nonsense for nothing. As Boris Johnson said "if we can't do it now, when can we?". He was absolutely bang on. The Summer was the time and NPHET got their way.

I know the UK are hinting at restrictions over Christmas. Even if they do, at least they had 3-4 months of freedom. We had nothing.

Last year we didn't get that summer break despite cases being in Single Figures. We never got that summer break that we needed and then went on with extra restrictions.

It is inhumane what they are doing to us.

Point of Order - UK Data is "Mechanical ventilation beds". ICU does not necessarily mean ventilation

Monday when NPHET meet hospital numbers will be nice and high after the weekend
