When did you get your thread ban lifted? There are plenty of CT threads where you can post this drivel?

We're a few weeks behind with the delta wave and we're overly cautious, we should be fully opening in September, but we won't.

I don’t want to insult people by saying things like that but I do think this country has gone down a rabbit hole of fear . I know hospitalisations have gone up here but they have gone up there too and if you go out over there they dont even mention covid . Life can go on normally with covid . Iv seen it with my own eyes . The only thing I can come up with is that our health system is so inept in comparison to theirs that we can’t get back to normal . If true I’d rather it was admitted instead of beating the population down with covid fear

Jesus living in Ireland would be a nightmare but that is the case

Yes I accept we may be a month behind on delta wave but I am not confident at all we will drop restrictions in fact I can’t see us doing it. I know I’m referencing England a lot and if you look across Europe England is a complete outlier but they are completely back to 2019 times over there . It is possible to do that and not have the sky fall down .

UK had a plan to open up. A timetable with dates and what needed to be achieved to make them happen. Unfortunately this Delta thing put the last stage back a few weeks but no one was too bothered anyway as everything was more or less open anyway. It was probably a good move in hindsight.

The last step was well explained, what will happen, what the worst could happen and basically with schools going back and the cold weather coming it would probably be the only chance to do it. So that was it, if people wanted to wear a mask they wore a mask, if they wanted to never leave the house again that is up to them.

Yes and maybe they will reintroduce restrictions during the winter I genuinely have no idea . I wouldn’t rule it out at all but at the moment they are living life as they did pre pandemic . The minute you hit Dublin airport the messages over the tannoy beat out about social distancing and masks . I just feels so oppressive

Quick question do you live in Ireland or the UK?

Well there we go. NPHET esentially looking for 100% vaccination of the population before restrictions lifted.

They won't ever achieve it....they are nicely demonstrating their ignorance of statistics and bell curves there.

We have to move on.If you vaccinate everyone you can and you still can't live life because of "ICU numbers" then you have now pin pointed that ICU beds are the real problem that needs addressing. Can we make this ANY clearer for them. They need to stop micro managing people's lives in order to maintain the very poor status quo in our health system.

That one isn't as negative as MM's recent comments in fairness. If the cabinet are not happy with NPHETs recommendations they shouldn't sign off on them.

Couple of standout comments for me are

"This will include the introduction of pilot schemes for the return of live events and nightclubs."

I mean, did we not already try this? What do they want to trial exactly. We are either lifting restrictions or we are not.

"Businesses will be asked to return to offices gradually, offer staff blended working arrangements and use antigen tests to screen employees for Covid-19."

Who's going to pay for these? Will they be free like other countries or will employees need to fork out for these?

Coveney making the following comment is also interesting “The Government will sign off on a roadmap for September and well into October, so that we can give everybody that’s interested to hear a very clear picture of times and dates and scheduling for the removal of restrictions,” he told RTÉ Radio One’s This Week.

This seems to indicate a complete lifting of all restrictions by end of October. It's either that or we are back to MM not planning past the weeks ahead.

That's been a problem for years. The HSE ignored their own report over a decade ago to significantly increase ICU capacity. I'm amazed the comments about "only" 28 ICU beds available in the country when the HSE have decided to run it at max capacity all the time rather than plan to increase the number of beds. They've had years to do this and failed miserably. Money can't be the issue so it has to be management.

NPHET yet again engaging a myopic, zero sum strategy. First it was endless lockdowns, now it’s blanket vaccination.

What happens when we get to 90% vaccinated and hospital numbers are still rising?

Not using antigen testing is one thing I don’t understand, they’re not perfect but surely they can make a difference.

I saw a pack of 5 of these for sale in a chemist the other day for €30, I’m from the UK originally so friends and family have just sent me boxes of them as they get them for free, I think it’s fairly poor the government don’t do this.

NPHET will never recommend them but these tests may be included in the government plan, for businesses to use.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 15,333 ✭✭✭✭JRant

If the government are going to make them a requirement then I presume they will be providing them to businesses.

    When?

It was July 5th when Coveney said they may use them and what has been done about it?

It would be just like this useless shower to finally bring in antigen tests a full year after everybody else, a day late and a dollar short as usual. They must be still trying to figure out which of their mates is getting the contract.

For what reason though? Is it because they’re not 100%? This probably comes back to the government actually taking charge, surely if MM and co think they are beneficial they should roll them out.

Im not sure on their accuracy but most articles seem to suggest they are far better than Tony’s 50% accurate statement.

Like a lot of people I think I’m just beat up at this stage, get vaccinated and start heading back to some kind of normal, seems to be less true than ever and that’s a depressing thought.

Did you see Tony, Nolan and Co at the cabinet subcommittee meeting where they were dead set against them. The main reason being they are not PCR tests and people are too stupid to use them.

Wait and see the plan I guess. Government are OK with them, NPHET are not. Harris has been talking about them on campus.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,745 ✭✭✭✭bucketybuck

Wait and see the plan that we might get, and hope that the plan isn't thrown in the bin within days like the previous plan this government provided?

Wait longer and let the virus spread while we dither on a tool that could help in fighting it?

Why exactly should this nation wait patiently for these clowns to figure out the very basics?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,132 ✭✭✭✭is_that_so

The stock NHPET answer is that it leads people to conclude a status that may not be true and of course that PCR is the gold standard. It does look like the only thing the government is inclined to push back on and they have done the groundwork on their potential use.

It's only another 8 days and the plan would still be considered a draft.

Nolan sounding very optimistic on RTE this morning. Next week or two will be the peak of Delta and low levels expected right up to December.
