That was contrived. Obligatory fake interview to get the point across.

The streets would be empty if people were afraid but they aren't.

Name another 'global pandemic' from history where people had to be penned in against their will for 2-3 years.

We have over 11,000 hospital beds and out of a population of five million we have three hundred people with covid in hospital, am I getting this right.

Are the HSE releasing the number of total beds occupied, I heard from a hospital worker that hospitals arent very busy at all.

We have 54 people in ICU beds, are these 54 people part of the 300 with covid in hospital so in effect we are counting them twice.

Seriously what sort of a system are we funding to the tune of millions if the HSE is on a worry meter about 300 out of a population of five million being in hospital, what is Paul Reid going to be tweeting in October.

I really wish I could go to sleep in September and wake up next April, these health bureaucrats are destroying the mental health of the citizens of this country.

Are we testing way more than other European countries, how come we have millions to spend on this testing of a disease thats rampart all over the country, is out testing giving us the highest number of cases in the EU, can we for the love of God stop this testing, we might as well burn this money.

Why cant antigen tests be sent to every household in the country and just stop the PCR testing, its pointless now.

I would tend to agree with you. Kids are still having their birthday parties. People planning Confirmations and Communions are giving out about restrictions in numbers and not one bit worried about Covid. Maybe not in cities but in some rural areas the rules on covid certs, music, closing times etc is being completely ignored. In some places the rules on numbers at funerals etc may as well not be there. The fear is gone for so many people.

The new roadmap will be delayed or else changed a lot because of the high numbers

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,295 ✭✭✭✭Beechwoodspark

    Is this confirmed or speculation

Meanwhile our nearest neighbors have their full freedom? Can't see that going down too well

You don't know this. How about you wait and see instead of spamming this thread with your doom mongering? Every other post is you trying to enlighten us with your forecasts of misery.

Can't ban travel to there as that's a British decision, can't ban travel back either as the EU have that sown up with the digital cert

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,894 ✭✭✭✭Red Silurian

My point is the public backlash here would be way too much, it would never work to delay the reopening roadmap

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 43,179 ✭✭✭✭PTH2009

Could use the 'essential and non essential travel'

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,389 ✭✭✭irishguy1983

To be fair based on past 18 the poster is probably correct....Just because it is not something we don’t want to hear/a bit pessimistic doesn’t mean it is wrong....Yes let’s wait and see but doesn’t look good...

We could but it didn't work for us very well in the past so I can't see them going down that road either

Until businesses openly defy shutdown orders and until the 2000 or so lunatics who turn up to listen to nutters like Gilroy and Dolores Cahill are overwhelmed by 200,000 people turning up to hear rational thinkers like Martin Feely, Jack Lambert and Michael McNamara, nothing will change. FF TD's know they are done for anyway, FG TD's know that allowing that gobdaw Mehole to keep this nonsense up gives them fuel for the next election "we knew that the restrictions were excessive and that the country had been ceded to unelected NPHET officials but FF weren't for turning".

It's becoming increasingly hard to see where the next government will come from. The obvious result was SF with FF as minority partner, but FF might not get enough seats to even make that one viable, their handling of this crisis has just been staggering. FG and Greens will never get into bed with SF and SF will never, I hope, get into coalition with the extreme left parties, so it really is hard to see where the next one comes from.

Frankly I'd have rather spent the whole of 2021 in prison. It must be a great existence, instead of being out here living through the will they won't they here's your pub back but we might take it back again in October nonsense.

To be honest I'd be more concerned about how anyone can be logically expected to pay fines for violating the distance from home laws when the wasters who organised the George Floyd protests and the 14 day picket outside Blanch Garda Station haven't been touched. The DPP has basically decided you are allowed to organise whatever you want as long as it's in memory of some waster, dependent on skin tone of said waster.

Bear in mind all public protests are technically illegal untl at least November as things stand. State of emergency to prevent public order, it's like something out of a North African dictatorship- I seem to recall that during the 2011 Arab Spring the likes of Algeria and Tunisia had been under a temporary state of emergency since the early 90s. How long will we get?

And what, exactly, is the worrying number?

As with everything, we never get a figure on exactly what the worrying number is.

Why is it that England can drop absolutely every restriction and have life completely back to normal and we can’t ? Is it that the health system over there is so superior to ours? I genuinely am desperate to know the answer to this .

Speculation is NPHET won’t allow any further relaxation until after schools are back

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,040 ✭✭✭Penfailed

Yet the same poster complains about media, government and NPHET doom mongering...and then proceeds to do exactly the same.
