Great, fear and anxiety will be getting whipped up now for the next week or so.

If we want to have meaningful Christmas, we need to act now! Lockdown hard for the next 6 months!

totes agree, cant see how this opening up marlarky has gone on for this long !

on a total conspiracy head theory here, has the eu told our gov theres no more money and they need to get people back to work becuase the whole opening up thing just seems weird considering the stance a week or so ago.

At least we now have evidence that lockdown for months on end has no real benefit. Unfortunately it looks like there is no end in sight until an adult conversation happens.

Yesterday I read that we have had 1 death in July. In the same article, there are quotes from NPHET admitting that headaches and sniffles could be Covid.

Delta with a high level of hospital admissions is of concern, but just big case numbers among the 18-34 group not so much.

It's still down to the hack really, but the numbers are small enough that you would think a pen and paper and phone call to each hospital would be sufficient to gather this data.

    We can make a few inferences, based on things we do know;

Median age of all Covid cases is now 23, which speaks to the ongoing march of the vax programme. The portal is to open for 25-30 tomorrow (?) and we're administering second doses at a rate of ~1% of adults per day at the moment, which implies we're 1.5-2 months away from full cover.

Reid said today that 5% of cases are in fully vaccinated people (which is to be expected), and we are close to finished vaccinating all of the most vulnerable cohorts.

That tells us that 90-95% of cases are in people under 60 with no underlying conditions. And this cohort are being vaccinated from the eldest down, at a rate of knots.

From which we can infer that even though cases may rise, it seems likely that ICU & hospital numbers will plateau before they get wildly out of control.

From the figures above, at 950 cases a day of people under 45, will lead to about 0.285 deaths/day based on a 0.03% IFR. Probably less, but let's be pessimistic. So let's say 1.5 deaths/week. The ICU:death ratio is about 10:1, so that's about 15 ICU admissions a week.

Which is kind of squeaky bum, it's 120 admissions in two months. But that's the pessimistic figure and ignores the impact of continued vaccination. I don't see the justification for lockdown here, and pushing indoor dining to 26th will give us a little extra breathing room.

994 cases today, 22 in ICU.

Needs more stats to gauge how serious it is now in the post vaccinated world. They should tell us average age of those in ICU, what percentage of those in ICU have stayed overnight in a hospital in the last 3 years etc.

5% vaccinated, median age of 23! Of those cases only 40 or 50 are fully vaccinated. This is all positive in relation to the vaccine programme and its impact on numbers

Good post, id love to see data on current length of ICU stays, 15 a week might seem a lot but if the average stay is low, then its not quite so bad

This Delta wave seems to be unstoppable. Cases expected to to plateau in the UK in the next two weeks. I'm feeling more confident now than a few weeks ago that it will probably be ok to some extent

Good to see hospitals returning to normality...

Ms O'Connor said there were 183 people on trolleys at 8am this morning, which is "significantly better" than the 2019 figure (39% reduction).

Awful feeling that they are going to be spooked by the ‘numbers’ and even the watered down reopening on the 26th will be pushed back.

Really depends on the next week. NPHET have pushed for the use of the digital cert anyway. Personally don't think it will as we move past 60% fully vaccinated.

does anyone know if you need a negative test to come out of isolation? i tested positive on 03/07/2021 and was told 10 days. still have symptoms though, so would like to get a test to assuage everyone's fears that refuse to see me!

the only number i got from HSE was about mental health support.

To be fair, I'd say the over 70s are probably still most at risk even despite vaccination just through possible break through cases although I don't think there's been any real analysis of the UK deaths of vaccinated.

His tweet is bullshit and sensationalist though

    thanks for the link.

    its terribly unhelpful though:

Most people (what about the minority that dont fit the below?) can stop self-isolating when both of these apply:

    • You have had no fever for 5 days. (I dont have a fever but still have a cough).
    • It has been 10 days since you first developed symptoms. (It has been 10 days).

According to the above I can stop self isolating as i dont have a fever and its been 10+ days since i 1st developed symptoms.

I might just ring the GP and get advise off them

And are they still mixing covid and non covid patients in the same ICU still in some hospitals.

Are many hospitised cases out in 24 hours or less with a package of meds after some tests.

Are people still technically counted what should be classed as returned patient to a and e because we dont have covid outpatient clinics like they do in the Uk?

And have they changed the pcr cycle again for non/vaxed separatly.

And are they still spacing beds farther apart and separating patients in nursing homes if they have symptoms vaccinated or not.

    The questions one ponders...

Given that a high percentage of cases are amongst young people does it really matter.

We really need to step away from the fixation of cases numbers being the be all and end all of how covid is behaving in the community.

Totally agree, the push notifications from rte and so on should be about vaccination numbers daily!

Singapore which has a lot of experience with viruses is dispensing with case numbers and concentrating on hospital cases.

They are no longer publishing case numbers but will publicise hospital numbers, probably with a lot more transparency than here.

Singapore has now accepted covid wont eliminated, its endemic in the population so no longer a pandemic.

They have decided its time to live with it and with that decision comes accepting people will die.

Its time for this country to follow Singapore, it sound like authorities there know what they are talking about, unlike the basketcase Australia has become.
