I have no problem if private testing is done through the State such as what happened when samples where being sent to Germany.

I kind of agree, there's always a danger that business interests come before public health. A very real danger, even.

But on the other hand, it's not like the state has been a shining example of transparency, honesty and competence either.

    Hmmm.

Goodman: Oh hello private testing company. I need to test 400 workers in a plant I have in Tipperary.

Testing lab: Oh we can do that, no problem.

Goodman: I also have 15 other factories throughout the country. Not that this is relevant to the conversation, just to say there's a chance we'll have to test some of these other factories from time to time.

Testing lab: I got you. Go on.

Goodman: So what kind of tests do you have?

Testing lab: Three types, A, B and C. Test C take the longest turnaround and are the most unreliable in that they give a higher number of false negatives. But they're all approved for use.

Goodman: I'll go for Test C please.

Testing lab: Excellent decision. We'll do groups of 40 at the time, starting with those showing symptoms and working our way outwards from their closest workers to the rest of the shop floor. That way we only have to notify the HSE of any positives over the period of a few days. Hopefully they'll just be absorbed into the rest of the numbers and the media then won't pick up on a massive spike in notified cases over one day. Sound good to you?

Goodman: Perfect. Good doing business with you.

Yeah, I'm sure a private testing company would risk ruin by controversy to save the neck of a ham company..

When money, power is involved, there is a risk. We've seen it in the past where contracts are awarded through connections and favours. The many costly tribunals can attest to that, and unfortunately when these things come to light it is long after the fact and what real damage is done.
It would be a lot cleaner if it was all done through the state or at least sub-contracted from the state

Sadly quite through for us to.

Okay, this is good but i still think the public testing should take over if or when a positive is found.

Any private lab accredited to conduct such testing who did not report results indicating positive results of a reportable disease, or fudged or otherwise altered results at the behest of whomever was paying for the testing would not last long in business.

Donnelly saying we could have a national lockdown

We’ll see pigs flying before that happens

Minister for Health Stephen Donnelly has warned that Ireland is at a "tipping point" and that the country “could be looking at another national lockdown”

Well. Better squeeze those 1.1 million humans indoors quickly so.

But if 90 cases in Dublin is correct, there hasn't been any talk of large private testing/clusters in Dublin has there?

Unless its some historical numbers been found somewhere or some company testing its staff?????

If indeed the number given earlier are correct

    Construction Sites Again?

I never understand why the politicians always, always start asking their questions so slowly, only to get all flustered and shouty when they run out of time 5 minutes later. It makes the thing even more of a chore to watch

Moderna are reporting their vaccine is producing similar antibody levels in older people as it is with younger people. Big news for vulnerable groups.

Where do you get the info before it gets released?

If I told you that I'd only put your life in danger,
My sources are MI5, CIA and KGB like......an overweight trades man who smokes to much and would talk the hind legs off a horse, who some how gets his info before he has a breakfast roll, pot noddle and reads the sun at lunch or I'm an international spy

Notified Body Auditor: Can I see your testing data for the last two years?

    Lab: Certainly here you go

Auditor: I see you conducted hundred of Covid tests for Honest Larry's Meat Packing, Can I see the purchase reqs associated with this testing?

    Lab: Here you go

Auditor: Can I see any communications between you and the customer?

Lab Answer 1: No, Privileged information

Result: Lose accreditation due to not divulging information relating to testing for a reportable disease

Lab Answer 2: here you go

Result: Lose accreditation due to conspiring with customer to mislead authorities in relation to testing for a reportable disease

I'm not sure if had it I would be announcing it either, maybe just to very close friends and family.
And hopefully to people you had been in contact with and might have infected...

    Goes without saying.

Why would you be telling people you have not seen in months possibly?

    Unfortunately that simply isn't true.

The reality is NPHET have very little weaponry in their armory, testing, tracing and isolation only work so well to a point, when the instances of the virus reaches X in the community, playing constant wack a mole simply isn't feasible.

I have said for time that X is around 1300 instances of a virus a week, with exponential growth in clusters and nationwide community spread.

185-200 cases a day and rising.

If the "beer" figures are accurate we are in and around 120 cases a day for the last 7 days.

You are looking at 1-3 weeks to exceed 200 cases a day that's even without factoring in the daily millions of new contracts and movements the schools will bring.

That's why he is saying we are at a crossroads, the reality is they can't do very much except to bring in nationwide restrictions.

I imagine they won't be as bad as March - they can't be.

What they will look like I have no idea.

IF they were the same wishy washey ones that were brought into the LOK counties they might as well not bother.

Talking out his rear end as usual.

When things aren't going his way recently he tends to come out with that 1 line

That’s at least the second possibly third time he’s said or hinted at this since last week. Is this a scare tactic or what’s his angle on it ?

He obviously doesn’t even listen to what Dr Glynn says publicly. He’s completely at odds with what NPHET say. He’s incompetent.

He is not able to communicate on this issue so is resorting to "follow the guidance or else". Say what you like about Harris, at least he was able to bring people along

He’s trying to scare people 100%

Well he’s gotten my 82 year old grandmother frightened as she was on edge last night when I saw her(socially distantly) and she was worried there’d be another lockdown so he’d achieved his goal.
